Re: How to declare a firearm.
Good video with some good information.
Can you please post the regulation that you refer to in the video stating that ammo "must be in a factory ammo case"?

Re: How to declare a firearm.
Fairly good video.
Instead of showing video of a gun case while describing the requirements, show a slide with a link to the regulation and a brief synopsis of the requirements.
I never watched Tommyboy.
I just tell them I have firearms in my gun case. No luggage agent has ever asked me to take any gun out of the case in the last ten years. I just crack open the case and slip the orange tag into it. The only people who have ever touched my guns have been the TSA people.
I agree about using non-TSA locks.
Most airlines check ID prior to letting you pick up the gun case at baggage claim. But then I never traveled with a case small enough to put in a suitcase lately.

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-2002-t ... 40-111.xml(d) Ammunition. This section does not prohibit the carriage of ammunition in checked baggage or in the same container as a firearm. Title 49 CFR part 175 provides additional requirements governing carriage of ammunition on aircraft.
I never had a problem with ammo in a plastic, metal or paper ammo container in the gun case or suitcase. The TSA normally looks at my luggage.(8) Small arms ammunition for personal use carried by a crewmember or passenger in checked baggage only, if securely packed in boxes or other packagings specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition. Ammunition clips and magazines must also be securely boxed. This paragraph does not apply to persons traveling under the provisions of 49 CFR 1544.219.

Re: How to declare a firearm.
I have NEVER had anyone check my ID at baggage claim to get my case, it just comes out on the conveyor belt. Full size rifle cases, military hard cases, small pistol cases in luggage, all treated the same and all on the conveyor belt.ranb wrote: Most airlines check ID prior to letting you pick up the gun case at baggage claim.

Interesting. The airports in Norfolk, Duluth, Mineapolis, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas and San Antonio all checked my ID prior to letting me walk away with my gun case. Occasionally I have found it on the conveyor belt.Bendersquint wrote:I have NEVER had anyone check my ID at baggage claim to get my case, it just comes out on the conveyor belt. I have flown all those terminals except Duluth with guns and never even a glance.ranb wrote:Interesting. Sounds like you are being targetted.....do you look like a shady person?
Re: How to declare a firearm.
They used to check I.D. at ATL, but when they figured out most of those doing the checking couldn't read anyway, they stopped the pratice. Now, the first one to get their hands on the item can walk away with it.ranb wrote:Interesting. Shady or not I don't mind them requiring an ID to hand over a gun case. I think I look like a nerd.Bendersquint wrote:I have flown all those terminals except Duluth with guns and never even a glance.

Re: How to declare a firearm.
Last time in DC coming home from a NE pheasant hunt they left my shotgun case in the middle of the oversize baggage claim on the floor. No attendant, no nuthin. Almost tripped over it on my way to a CS rep to see where it was.
I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people......... I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort itself out.
Re: How to declare a firearm.
I've flown through several airports with firearms. My case has ALWAYS been pulled aside and I have had to show ID to pick it up in the baggage claim area. And I never have ammo in "factory" packaging since everything is handloaded. I just keep ammo in plastic ammo boxes and it's never been questioned.
