I got the chance to shoot a .500 whisper yesterday. What a caliber! It shoots regular 50 BMG bullets at subsonic velocities. Cases are made from 338 Lapua. Subsonic API and tracer is very cool.
the X-50 did a good job of quieting the .500, especially when you consider that it was intended for the Barrett M-107.
Edited to add: The suppressor is not a production item and not available for sale.

Twist rate
What does the twist rate have to be to stablize that hunk of lead at subsonic velicitie?
NFA shooters blow their load with only one pull of the trigger.

Re: .500 Whisper!
Actually, it was a 510 whisper you shot. The 510W is baed on the 338, while the 500W is based on the 460 weatherby. I have a 510W barrel for my encore. A 2x18" aluminum can (form 1) I made for it makes it sound like a car door slamming. This 7.5 pound gun kicks so hard it has wrecked two scopes, damaged a Leupold, and ripped off the bipod adaptor and forend a few times. I should have gotten the TRG-S based gun instead. Wish I lived outside of WA so I could shoot it more often.
