My wife is from a place not far from Columbia (actually she used to work there-- now we live in France, near Paris where I work as Forensic Ballistic lab tech for French National Police, but we intend to go back in TN)... is there a long range shooting range (600 yards to 1000 yards) near?.....

I am looking for a palce like this... it's actually a French army tank shooting range( 3200m deep)... it was allowed for civilian shooters to shoot there till the new colonel decided to close the gates to us....

JC resident here as well. Unaka Rod and Gun is a good club to join. Good facilities imho. There has to be a range officer present to shoot though.

For public ranges there is Pond Mountain out by Watauga lake and one over off of rt 107 leading out of Unicoi.

Range officers don't always show up at Unaka... I left there because of that, and shutting down the pistol ranges constantly. I had far too many wasted trips there.

Just NE of Chattanooga. Don't have a can yet but figured I'd get in here and try to learn a little bit. Interested in making my own. Maybe.

I am in Maryville too. Can you tell me the thread pattern on your can? Is that considered standard?
I just bought a Mauser FR-8 and need to find out what the threading is on it.

I hope this Answers your Question Regarding thread size.

Large Ring - Mauser's with a Large ring have a thread shank diameter of 1.10" With 12 threads per inch. Across the face of the receiver will measure 1 3/8 . You can also measure the trigger guard screw holes, From center hole to center of other hole should measure about 7 7/8 or 7.830.

Small Ring - Mausers with a Small ring have a thread shank diameter of .980" With 12 threads per inch. Across the face of the receiver will measure 1 1/4. You can also measure the trigger guard screw holes, From the center of the holes measure , it should measure about 7 5/8 or 7.625.
