7.62 Can Decision is upon me.

Post by moagm316 »

I am seriously looking at two cans I need some opinions of quality and overall performance.

I am open to suggestions, however I have a few requirements.

Durability / Customer Service
Quick Attatch
Weight w. Flashhider
Quiet
Price

The host weapons I will be using will be anything from a 10.5 AR15 SBR all the way to 18.5 Inch .308 AR and 18.5 Inch Rem 700.

My instant two faves are YHM 7.62 Titanium QD and Specwar 7.62. I like the lighter weight of the Titanium can, but am wondering about the weight to durability trade offs of a TI can.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm leaning towards the specwar watching the vids from shot shows it has some promising features and I really like that it is magnum rated up to 300 ultra mag for under a grand in price.

I talked with YHM at SHOT and I had a chance to talk with a Builder who uses YHM suppressors. I am seriously considering the Titanium 7.62 for a QD setup. Light weight is the way to go, the lighter the better.

Quiet is subjective.

I went with YHM 7.62 Titanium since it's also magnum rated. :D

Check out my post in the "silencer review" section.

Wow Magnum rated? That is not listed on the YHM website.

Yep found it on the YHM FAQs. It is rated for all .30 Cal rifle rounds including up to 300 Ultra mag. If the Specwar was in Titanium It would be looking much better.

Just keep in mind, it's not magnum rated for full auto (is there even such a thing?). And full auto in general should be limited for the Ti can.

That being said, I concur, the YHM Ti can is a good all-around choice :D I handled one when I picked up my YHM SS can, weight difference is amazing.

I do not even want to own full auto weapons. Will it handle rapid fire though?

Should be ok, just don't be running drum after drum through it or something. And don't put a cover on it so you can keep an eye out for color change if it starts getting too hot.

Yea I don't plan on dumping a Beta mag through it. I do plan on taking some carbine classes and doing 3 gun out of it.

If it matters YHM also makes metric thread pattern mounts namely 14x1LH for an ak. I like to look at all options. I really thought I wanted an AAC 762sdn6 but mount cost alone I'll save 200 bucks. Those 100+ dollar mounts add up.

The YHM cans are great particularly because of mount availability and price. I went with SS because durability was > weight on this can as I already have a lighter 308 thread on can.

Down the road if I find a deal I may buy another in Ti
