DeGroat NANO wiped/dry on a .22?

Post by FSCJedi »

So have any other of your NANO owners tried it dry/wiped on a .22 pistol? Because I just did, and it was definitely hearing safe with CCI Standard Velocity (what I had loaded). From memory (and it's been a while), it sounded like it might be as quiet as a YHM Mite. I was firing my Beretta 70S, if anyone was curious what host was used, and that's not even the quietest host I have - it was just the one I grabbed for my experiment.

Last I heard, James was making .22 LR NANOs. Did he ever finish?
If it doesn't splatter, shatter, burst or explode, it's not worth shooting.

I filmed a short video comparing the NANO to the Spectre II.

I have shot a Nano - dry and wiped against a Sparrow in my garage (slightly oversized 2 car with sheet rock on all walls and ceiling + concrete floor, doors down or closed). They are both loud in that environment but the Sparrow has an edge. That said, on a couple occasions I have fired two shots (@ 2 seconds apart) from one or the other in the garage with neighbors across the alley way (50' or so away) - no heads popped up and no one seemed to notice.

I have heard a Trident on a .22 in the same kind of enclosed space - it was much better. What is that gear head saying? 'There is no replacement for displacement'.... I think if you have a big aperture more volume helps.

Sometime I will try the Nano on a bolt action .22 outside against the Sparrow and report back.

Good luck
