SWR Octane45 Review

Post by Fireman1291 »

So back when Silencerco came down a month or two ago I filmed each product and I'm trying to edit and upload each review as time permits. The editing takes awhile as it's very time consuming. Out of all the cans I shot that day, this can had the most bang for the buck.

I hope you enjoy the review!

Other than FRP on the Osprey, no they sound the same after the 2nd shot.

Good to see a vid in action.

My Oct 9 sounds very good with 22lr and 38 also. They say you can use 357 with the Oct 45 too! My should come any day and have a super low ser#.

These are the best cans (for the size) I hope Silencerco doesnt go big Corp and ruin SWR!

Great vid!

I was three weeks later than emilio getting my Form 4s in for the Octane 45 ... so I have a while yet for approval I fear.

Good to see it works well with the 22 LR as well. I also found the Octane 9 to be a good 22 LR can.

Sounds pretty good with the 45. I'll be pleased I suspect! Adapters and hosts are ready.

I understand that the Octane 45 is FA rated for subsonic 300 BLK. THAT will be fun ;-)

Question for the Octane owners....
I have 2 Octanes in purgatory right now and want to run them on several guns.
I just can't get real solid answer on what I need for each application.
Please answer the questions separately.
I do know that both the Octane 45 and Octane 9 use #18 Viton o-rings.

1) Exactly what extra components do I need to buy to run 22LR on an Octane 9HD?
with piston? with spring? with spacer?

2) Exactly what extra components do I need to buy to run 300 Blackout on the Octane 45 and Octane9?
with piston? with spring? with spacer?

3) Exactly what extra components do I need to buy to run 9mm in the Octane 45?
with piston? with spring? with spacer?

4) is it worth setting up the Octane 45 to run 22LR?

1) No spring. 22LR barrels are fixed. You can use a 1/2x28 piston with the fixed spacer, OR the best option, just use the 1/2x28 fixed mount.

2) No spring. 300 BLK barrels are fixed. 5/8x24 piston with the fixed spacer, OR just use the 5/8x24 fixed mount.

3) Use the spring, no fixed spacer. Most 9mm pistol barrels tilt and move. Either 1/2x28 or M13.5x1 LH pistons.

4) Always best to have a dedicated 22LR can. The rate of lead buildup is just too fast. Use the Octane for 22LR only as backup IMO.

Use the fixed mounts instead of a piston/spacer combo whenever possible... cleaner setup, less parts, and more efficient.

The 9 and 45 should come with 1ea pistons you choose for pistols and just order more pistons if needing for more pistol thread types .

Use the fixed adapters for fixed barrels &
22LR , (much better and worth it)

The Octane 9 sounds so damn good with 22, no need to use the 45 ( but you can since everything interchanges.) 45 may have less blowback on 300blk and louder on 22 but I haven't try yet.)

Here's what you need for your question, I have the 3rd adapter too for 9 carbine (not in pic)

Thank you for posting this wonderful review. You've reassured me that I made the correct decision to purchase one. May can't get here soon enough for me now, at least I hope it's May and not June or July! It went pending on July 30th.

Been mulling over the Osprey 9 and TiRant 9 for a USP 9 host about a year ago. Then I threw some questions your way and you recommended the Octane 9 to me. Did some research and liked what I found. Just as I was about to pull the trigger on a Octane 9, I heard more and more about the 45 version...

Long story short, I bought a SWR Octane 45. SHould transfer to my FFL/SOT in the next few weeks. I 'trusted' up too so with that I'm hoping that efiling wont leave me hanging a year for my can in an ATF blackhole.

SHopped around, SilencerShop.com was where I bought, very helpful guys there. COuldnt be happier to finally start the process.
