Video Review: SWR Warlock2 suppressor

Post by Fireman1291 »

This is a short and sweet review of the Warlock2 suppressor. I have since bought my own because I couldn't get over just how light it was. I am planning a lightweight project with Ruger, Volquartsen, and SWR.

Hope you enjoy the video and I look forward to a more in depth review once my own Warlock2 clears the ATF.

Fireman, Nice video. Why not the Spectre II? Its little heavy than the Warlock II, But build like a tank, and I think is way much easy to clean than the Warlock II, I know the Warlock II is 3.8oz lighter than Spectre II, Its that worth it?

I had my Spectre II since last year, and I shoot about over 4,000 round to it, clean it 3 times, every times after I clean it I put a light coat of Froglube for making easy to clean with dip, soak it over night and take few min of light scrubing. I have my SS Sarrow over 2 year, and like it very much except got a noticeable FRP when the can is clean. and be honest, I love my Spectre II over the SS Sparrow. Its that 3.8oz worth it over the Warlock II? sorry that's my 5 cent of thought. What do I know..I only have 3 can and you have what? Over 20 can

3 oz is amazingly light. I can't believe I didn't realize that about the can before. Please do a review of how easy it is to clean. Aluminum means ultrasonic and dip are off limits right?

If youre just going to use it for a rifle then get the sparrow or Spectre but for a pistol the warlock is awesome. Ive got a sparrow and while its great, the warlock is much better on my 22/45 lite. It really helps with the balance of the pistol. You really only need two rimfire cans, a sparrow/Spectre and warlock to have all the bases covered.

The Gemtech Outback IID is the lightest 22 can, just 2.5 oz!

But it's assembled the old way with the tube unprotected inside, so it's a PITA to take apart and clean.

It feels fake when you pick it up lol.

No US cleaner for this one. I am planning a "how to clean different suppressor types" video. I'm just letting them get real crudded up first.

I know this isn't 100% ON topic, but noticed you said something about a lightweight build (which I'm doing with a 10/22 now) and figured I'd throw this in there even though y'all are 1000 times more experienced than I with this.

I just got a Volquartsen barrel in for my 10/22 and after getting the thing attached (barely) I put the gun back together and then attempted to slap one of my 2 Spectre II's on the end. No go! I woulda had to apply so much torque to the can to get it to shoulder that I don't know if I coulda done it without a strap wrench......the second Spectre II I have also didn't fit. Thank God my Kodiak TL fit cause there's no way in hell that barrel is coming outta that receiver without a pro taking it out.

When your barrel comes in make sure you can attach your can to it before slappin in on the receiver like I did.
I've gotta stop this habit.

Damn dude, I have the SS Sparrow and have been looking to purchase another 22 can and was torn between the Spectre 2 and the Warlock 2, but after the video and what you just said I may end up getting the warlock 2 now!! I use the Sparrow for 5.7 and 22lr but could make it dedicated to 5.7 if I buy the warlock.

I like the Element for pistol only about 1 oz heavier but much shorter so no wand effect ( which takes up the difference) and SS guts.

However the SWR is sweet like all their stuff and cheaper.

Have you cleaned the warlock yet? I don't need the video but I'm really curious how you clean those aluminum baffles.

This looks like a moderately annoying way to clean. Possible health hazard. Lead dust everywhere......

WOW! Amazing what some people do with lead (and the dip) around the house. I hope they don't have kids.

I agree.

Also, Liberty recommends sand blasting.... which also spreads lead everywhere. I might have to build myself a negative pressure hood. I'm not a fan of airborne lead dust. I don't care if it's inside my house (toxicity issue) or out in the lawn (FDA Superfund issue).

Cleaning the baffles is best accomplished by taping off the front of the core to protect the paint (if painted) and sand blasting the core till it is clean to your standards. Scraping with small tools also works, it is not crucial that the baffles be surgically clean for the suppressor to work properly.

I wouldn't use sand ( too abrasive) or a booth ( Contaminated) glass and soda is better.

Think wet, no dust until evaporated. There are wet blasters but they are large scale and wet tumblers are the simplest .

Never airborne lead inside, you will never get rid of it ( like asbestos dust)

Aluminum is limited so buy SS .

I'd rather have a contaminated booth than a house. Hazardous waste disposal is free for civilians but not business. That includes free disposal for contaminated glass. Civilians get screwed if their land is contaminated though. You are then no different than a major corporation.

I hear and agree with you on the wet tumbling. Now I gotta research tumblers....

The blast booth opens , recycles dirty media and uses a vac, unless you use a hepa vac or blow it outside you will have airborn lead. Even changing media will make dust.

Wet is best. :D

Hepa filters are a no brainer and cheap if you choose wisely. Autozone, amazon, sources galore. Stacked rolls of toilet paper can even turn into hepa.

I would have redundant 2 stage filters. I agree wet is best. Fewer modes of failure.

What do you mean by:
Even changing media will make dust.
Got any recs for wet tumblers?

Always good chatting with you.

You too, you must own them all by now. I meant when changing blast media or getting rid of the old. If I had a aluminum core I would wait until it got hard to clean anymore then go outside a soda blast it with a respirator .

Hey how's that test coming?

Got all the major calibers covered anyway. Gotta be ready for the Zombies. :-)

Gotta be careful with that. Gov laws are really lax on residential disposal (free at hazardous waste facilities). However, if you contaminate your land you are screwed by the EPA. The fines are beyond ridiculous. It's very easy to get million dollar fines for something you have no control over. So when you sell your land you better hope they don't test soil from your cleaning spot. I'm on a well so I definitely will not be putting any lead dust in the yard.
Hey how's that test coming?
Between the sub zero weather and traveling with work I haven't gotten around to it. Hope to get out as soon as work, woman and weather permit. 9mm test will be first as all of those are out of jail.
