Title says it all. Sound suppression vs costs. I can make my own but want to compare commercial cans.

Re: Best .223 can
Lots of factors to consider. For me, it was a Saker 762 with a 556 end cap. Its a little longer than the dedicated Saker 556. Its also quieter. Plus its alot more versatile as it can be used on my 300blk and a 308. For that versatility gain a few once. Its a trade off that was well worth it to me.
Re: Best .223 can
yep no reason not to go with a 30 cal can. works just fine on 223 and you have the flexibility of 308win/300blk/etc.

Have both 5.56 Saker and 7.62 Saker. Both sound great! The 7.62 Saker with 5.56 endcap sounds a bit better and darned good!
In addition the 7.62 Saker works really well with the 6.8 and 7.62x51.

A few questions for you:
1: will you use the can on multiple hosts?
2: How will you use it? Do you plan on hunting or will it mostly be used at the range, or??
3: Do you shoot cast bullets at all?

1. Yes
2. Mostly at the range
3. Some casts.
Seems like the .30 cal can may give me the most versatility

So with mostly range use, weight is not a huge issue for you.
You now will need to weigh cast bullet compatibility against quick attach versatility.
Cast bullets can foul a suppressor pretty quick. Some have reported success with powdercoated cast bullets in a sealed can.
I'd say if you can do without cast, look at a can like the Specwar. If you really want to shoot cast and can deal without the quick attach feature, look at the Mystic-X

Re: Best .223 can
The Griffin Armament SPR is IMHO the best sounding 5.56mm silencer.
The Hybrid fast attach/direct thread aids in little to no P.O.I. Shift.
And the reflex aspect is really nice there is very little forward of the muzzle. 4.5" and low gas blow back.

The new Sig 5.56 Ti cans are the best-sounding 5.56 cans i've ever used.
I can't speak to the long term performance or any of that, but I was very surprised by my initial experience.
Also, there are many more factors to consider than just those two.
Look at (in no order):
- sound
- cost
- size
- weight
- durability
- mount system
generally exceeding on one particular area will bring compromises in another.

Re: Best .223 can
The best .223 can is a good .308 can.
Probably not the answer you want, but after a lot of testing and having access to many top cans on the market, I've found that a good .308 can will be within a couple dB of a good .223 can at the muzzle, and it will actually be a couple dB quieter at the shooters ear.
Muzzle or ear, decide if you want to impress your friends or yourself. Not that your friends would even notice, really. 2-4 dB isn't that big of a deal at the muzzle, but at the ear it becomes important.

Weight is ALWAYS a huge issue...Buy a heavy can and you'll be happy, till you try a light weight. Your heavy suppressor will sit in the safe...quiettime wrote:So with mostly range use, weight is not a huge issue for you.

Good quote and so very true.
I was told the 7.62 from Sig didn't meter well, but in all Fairness, metering and actual sound to the shooters ear can really be different? ( like I need to tell you that lol)

+1 on getting a .30 caliber can for .30 & smaller as long as its center fire and not rimfire.

The SRD762Ti-QD sounds pretty good to me. We metered it and it was fairly good, should have those numbers up in the near future.
