Video: Rugers first silencer

Post by Fireman1291 »

The new Ruger Silent-SR™ pronounced "silencer" is the first suppressor to debut from a publicly traded American firearm company. This innovative suppressor spent over a year in production and logged well over a quarter a million rds in R&D.

The unique baffle design (pics available in older posts on my FB page) are a radical new take on what you can achieve with casting. The "pushed cone" looks as if the metal was heated to a melting point and then pushed and cooled. The baffles are a cast stainless steel. The result is a very unique and efficient baffle design that exhibited very little to no FRP.

The design has already picked up some rather risque nicknames when I leaked the pics earlier this week after I stumbled on the 2016 Ruger product catalog. They uploaded prior to SHOT and thought nobody would notice.

Besides the rather comical nicknames I think we can all agree that Ruger has stepped into uncharted territory and if nothing else just helped the NFA community gain the support it needs to gain momentum in favorable legislation and public acceptance.

I have a feeling it's going to be more than just a political game here. I'm betting Ruger will become a contender in the current suppressor market. As you can see from this video, their suppressor works great and has factory tested metered averages of 114.7dB on the SR22, 115.0dB on the 10/22 takedown, and 113.3dB on the Ruger American in .22lr.

I hope this is not the only can we see from Ruger or other manufactures for that matter. It would be great to see others step in and join the movement. The more the merrier!

Well, I hope you enjoy the video. Please leave me any feedback, be it positive or negative so I can better tailor my videos for your viewing pleasure! Also if you have a YT account, give it a thumbs up if you like it!

Great review. It was nice to see a 22wmr being used as well.

The smile was almost like the Regulator smile.

The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

From the video, it almost seems as though there was negligible difference when the can was shot wet.

So that's why my local Walmart doesn't have any fucking 22 LR on the shelf, God Damn Ruger using it all to test their new suppressor!

You are right. In some cases I added too much water and it made it louder! It's a very efficient design.

good video. is this the official response from Ruger, that they uploaded their updated catalog before SHOT <-- and does that mean prior to Ruger doing their own videos?

I had worked with Ruger on the RPR video and as such they reached out to me and sent two reps down after I leaked it. It worked out for all parties

Nice unique designs. It's nice not having to worry about baffle stack orientations. Any info about POI shifts from the reps?

Is Ruger perhaps understating the ruggedness? A full SS stack with the tube protected should support up to 5.7 FN like most other top 22LR cans.

fireman you have done testing on all the 22 suppressors , where does the ruger fall in ?
seems to me nothing more then regular suppressor nothing innovative , and who would
buy one over the proven ones already out ?> you can pm if you like ,

i think 22 suppressors have hit a lawl in anything getting better down to 110 db . i think now
it will come down to making the action on hosts quieter .

dont get me wrong i like ruger ,own a few , and the more makers is good for us .
