After reading about the Thompson Machine SG, I began thinking about 9mm subgun cans again. I have an SWR Trident-9 which I think I'll keep attached to my Mini-Uzi SBR. I'd like a larger high volume 9mm subgun can for my full-size Uzi SMG. I'm not really enamored with the current MK-9K or MK-9 so, I'm curious what else is out there to compare can contrast with the Thompson Machine SG. I want something durable (steel?), servicable, with low blow back (open bolt SMG ) and a nice deep tone without a tinny ping.

Man, my MK-9K is an awesome sub-gun can - have you tried one yet? There are plenty of options TM, Gem-Tech, something custom, just to name a few.

I never have had a chance to demo an AWC MK-9 or GT MK-9K. I keep hearing great things about Tim Bixler and his suppressors but, I've never seen one of those either.

The SG fits all your criteria. Just sayin'

It's not steel, but it's super overbuilt and durable, comes apart quickly and easily for cleaning, has a nice deep tone, and is specifically designed to reduce back pressure.

A high volume can is big....I don't think you would want a steel can. I have a Bowers CAC-9 that is all aluminum. It weighs 18 ounces.

I've got an SG waiting for F4, good looking can, monocore so I can dump a ton of .22lr through it out of my M11/9. That's my second TM suppressor, so I like their products. That being said, have you looked at the GT Mossad? Good looking can in my opinion, but I'e got no idea on the suppression.

If you ever do find a Bixler can grab it, they are works of art, One of the few AWC can's I would get is the MK9 , Others are the TM SG, probably the easiest user servicable can out there, The Coastal Gun MIMS is good too, has interchangeable mounts and can be taken apart for cleaning, but not as easy as the SG. Sound wise there is little detectable difference between most of the big subgun cans.
Size and weight are next, the YHM Wraith is perfect in size and weight if it were able to be taken apart, it would be perfect, best to actually take a few out for a test drive. Pics for size comparison.

We metered a few subcans on Lage M-11 and MP5

SG, MK9 and Trident did rather well IIRC.........

I shot my Trident and my 9mm upper on an m16 lower and there wasn't an obnoxious amount of gas in my face outdoors. It was also quiet. Sounded like a little sewing machine.

AWC MK9 so old it says they are still in Texas. Best 9mm can I have used on my MP-5, Gov MP-5s, M-16s in 9mm, and some Uzis.

I use the Gemtech MK9K on my colt mod635 upper. Super with sub sonic ammo and the can can be partially disassembled for cleaning. A great can.

guess i'll +1 the MK9K as well. have one on my fullsized uzi and love it.

I love my Gemtech Talon SD.

IMO, the benefits of a one size fits all can like the Trident or MM have been exaggerated. I would much prefer a separate and larger can for less noise and blowback, and a smaller can for my pistols.

I would prefer 2 cans myself, but I have only one and can't buy any more for another 3.5 years, so I use it on pistols and a 9mm AR pistol.

It is OK.

I have a 9mm AR-15. I'm sorta depressed that I don't have like a 3" diameter can on the thing. The sights are so high.

I'll post a review of the SG sometime in the next weeks or so.

There are tons of reviews of Mk9k's, Mk9's, Vipers, etc - floating around. All good cans.

I would try to seek out a way to hear a CAC from Tom Bowers.... or get some good first hand comparison info - the guy and his whole outfit is a class act - very pleasurable to deal with and their communication is top notch, via both email and telephone. Not only that, but his attention to detail and quality in his products really shows, so his fit and finish is excellent. I find his adapter system to be very nice as well.

I like my Multimount. My daughter does too. On a stock 6540 with a Colt Scout/C-More red dot and Surefire rails. She was cutting out the 10-ring on a paper target at 30 feet. Marksmanship is genetic!

Same here, I have a MK9K with the Uzi mount on my Mini Uzi.

OK Guys.

I am a newbie at this end of the game. Later this year I'll be looking for a 9mm can primarily for a SIG 229 with a factory 1/2x28 threaded bbl ... but would like for it to be useable on a 9mm subgun. Doesn't have to be perfect for that because it will eventually be augmented with a can specifically for the subgun.

Suggestions for me to think about? (BTW, my local dealer tends toward YHM.)

I just picked up my CAC9 from Tom earlier this week, he's local to me. I also just bought an Uzi to mount it on but it's a private sale out of state so I've got two Forms 4 to wait on before I get it to me, but I'll definately drag my dealer out shooting when he gets it. Actually, he'll probably drag me out.
