Thompson Machine Zephyr XL (lots of pics)

Post by Bargsbeer »

This is not a full review, As I didn't get any range time today. My Zephyr XL came into my dealer today.
It looks much better in person. It comes with a tool to take a part but I found hand tightening was sufficient.
In the pics I did a side by side with a regular Zephyr you can definitely see the size difference. I wanted to post pics of the internals.

My Zephyr XL is sitting in my dealer's vault up in St. Pete while I wait for my form 4 to be approved.

It's been pending for a few weeks now.

I refuse to go in and handle it because I know it will make me want it that much more.

Glad to see you getting to play with yours though.

Post back your results after some range time.

Who is your dealer? My dealer and I are going to the range on Wed to put a few hundred rounds through it.

Thank you for sharing the most enjoyable shots. Your
taste in suppressor is complimented by your humidor
and its contents. I shall make the gratuitous assumption
that your 18 year old ( McCallan scotch that is :) )
is of the same calibre.

Yes they have based on previous pics I have seen. I like the overall construction of the of the Zephyr XL. It's really big, I was debating putting it on a Beretta Bobcat I think it would look really funny.

You have good taste in cigars too. I love A. Fuentes, especially 8-5-8, and the Hemingway series.

Actually those are my dealers cigars. Pics were taken at his shop.

If anyone in St Pete/Tampa area of Fla is looking for a kick ass dealer, I'll put you in touch with him.

Tom at Thermo Arms in Pinellas Park.

And sadly I can't go with you to the range even if it is the same dealer.

I will be back in the midwest by noon Monday (FREEZING MY ASS OFF!!!) and will be there for several months.

I'll have to pick up my XL when I get back to Florida this summer (or this fall if I'm really unlucky! ).

My form 4 should definitely be approved by then. 8)

Yep, these are the newest baffles. Also notice the new thread relief on the endcaps.

Suppressors make everything new and fun all over again. Its like adding a turbo or supercharger to a car or implants to a hot chick! LOL-Buzduk

I got some range time. My dealer and I tool it up to the outdoor range.

The host was a P22
Ammo was federal
We shot ZephyrXL,Zephyr and a coastal passport.

The ZXL has very little FRP compared with the other 2 cans.
It was silly how quiet it was, at $200 you can't go wrong.

Here is a pic of the new Desert Tan ZXL's. Not a great pic but it gives you the idea. I will try and get better pics if I survive the icepocolypse of 2011.

A measured sound comparison test between the old and new style cores would be interesting. It would let people who already own a ZephyrXL know if it would be worth it to pay to have the old core replaced with the new style. If there was a significant improvement it wold be worth the $ to upgrade. My older core style ZephyrXL is quiet enough where the new style baffles would be hard pressed to make a significant improvement..... but it would be nice to see some numbers.

I think at that point, were splitting cunt hairs. I was very impressed with both the Zephyr and Zephyr XL. I don't think an email to Brooks would hurt about getting the core upgraded so far TM has been great to deal with. My dealer called me on Monday we got talking he's going to put a 22 upper on one of his machine guns and were going to test out the ZXL on full auto.

I just ordered on of these through my dealer, actually he has seven on order waiting for form 3's to go through but one now has my name on it. This will be my first 22 can but I have a Ciener for .306, a suppressor on my 300 Whisper, and a 9mm Gemtech in the safe now.

I debated going integral on the 10/22 but seeing as I have a Browning Buckmark as well I decided being able to move the unit to other guns was a bonus.

It seems like Form 3's (from all manufacturers) are taking longer then my damn Form 4's right now. I don't know whats up. It is at least 6-8 weeks on most of mine.
