Thread protector won't stay on

Post by RidgeRunner »

Got a Sig P250 (with factory threaded barrel) and I've noticed the thread protector will not stay on when shooting. After just a mag or two, it's worked its way out about 1/2 mm or so. Is this common? Because of this, I generally just take the thread protector off when at the range.

I don't yet have a can for it, but I hope it doesn't work loose as quick. :|

Take it off. I don't see a need for pistol thread protectors, especially when shooting, so I don't have any. Some are so poorly designed that they actually touch and mar the crown. I carry loose threaded barrels in the two piece hard plastic barrel cases that Lone Wolf sends them in. When transporting, the stock barrel is in place.

Try some rockestt, that will keep it on.

But if you just want it a little tighter I'd use a little bit of teflon tape.
Going a little more discrete here due to some of my opinions...

If done correctly, you can alter one of the last threads that makes contact inside the TP so it makes a mechanical lock. Just enough tension to make the TP hard to turn for the last 1/8 turn.

Agreed. Especially on a pistol barrel. By the time anything happens to the threads you were probally up for a new barrel anyway.

or depending upon the geometery you may be able to put a o-ring at the end of the threads so that when you tighten the cap it compresses the o-ring and locks it in place. 8)

Who shoots with a thread protector on? That is where the suppressor goes.

I had a rimfire barrel that would shake off the factory thread protector within 2 mags. I never really shot it much with the can.

So, I tried a 'bit' of red loc-tite.

Don't do that.

I'm gonna' need some heat to remove it now.
