Where do I get a Ruger 22/45 or MK barrel threaded?

Post by gringogigante »

What's the best place to do this?

Also, what is a ballpark cost for this?

All the ones we get at my store go to a local Manufacturer here called Collier Rifles. He builds great rifles and does great thread work. He is a perfectionist and it shows. Cost is $100-$125 for barrel chop and threading.

The board member here named "Hoop" did mine, of Hooper Ordnance. I can't comment on his current pricing or wait times. Most people who treat MKII or MKIII uppers have a backlog.

Long Range Precision. Cost $65 and threads are great.

Would y'all consider the Rugers to be better platforms or hosts for the suppressors... over, say, a Mosquito or a P22?

The skeeter and p22 aren't even in the same league. The rugers are MUCH better. The new factory threaded 22/45 can be found for just over $300. With the price that low, there is no reason to buy the p22 or skeeter unless you just really like the looks of it.

Yes, I really liked my P22 for the first 2K or so rounds, things went downhill after that, slide stop spring kept falling out/binding up, slide wear was becoming a serious issue and I could see it was heading to a not good place, the screws on the receiver insert got loose, front sight popped off, safety arms went all squirrely on me, etc.

I really enjoyed shooting it, and Springfield came through on warranty work. Had the slide not been crappy zinc MIM, I'd have kept it. Compared to the Ruger I've had since 1996ish, and the 22/45 no comparison.

If you are going to go mosquito, look for the P229R with 22lr kit. Pick up a CPO in 9mm and the 22lr factory threaded kit costs $369. Sounds expensive, but a ruger+tacsol upper is expensive also.

Have you thought of just buying a Pac-Lite Threaded End Barrel ? Their are several moderately inexpensive dealers used by members of this foum. By the time you pay shipping and wait on the turnaround time it's an alternative you might consider. I forgot what mine cost for my MKII but it was around $150, great little barrel

http://hooperordnance.com does excellent threading. And he usually doesn't have a bad backlog. I'm very happy with the 22/45 I had threaded.

How close are you to Anna, TX? If pretty close, Craig @ RCS Guns (I can give you his number). He'll do it for about $40, I've had a couple barrels done by him (not for the same gun of course  ). Good guy, good prices. He also does transfers and sales of NFA and regular stuff.

Wheaton Arms does some of the best threading I've seen. I think the Allen Arms section has contact info for him.

Glad you like it. I have done many of the Silencerco thread specs since yours. I have done the thread protectors with a down sized hole on the end as seen here:

I have seen Gemtech's thread jobs, and they are beautiful.

I also have a 22/45 that was threaded by Hi-Desert Dog, and mine looks great, though others have said they have had problems

I just looked at the new threaded 22/45 today and as I expected its a lawyered up turd with the chamber indicator, warnings stamped permanently on the barrel and trigger disconnect  Instead I bought another sweet Tactical Solutions for the same price as the turd. Its a Paclite 6" with threaded barrel and rail to host my s/s sparrow. So much better
