i wander if it will accept a free float?

I believe the Bushmaster is a re-labeled POF like the DSA. However I haven't seen one up close so I don't know for sure that this is the case.

If so, it will be hard to find a rail system that will accomodate the piston, other than the Predator Rail system. Some folks really like those, some don't.

Yes, they may work also with some modification. I haven't had the pleasure of working with the POF, but from all accounts it seems to be a good system.
