I did some research over the past couple days. I found out that Oklahoma allows suppressed hunting on private land only, and that Florida allows suppressed hunting of non-game animals on private land only. In light of that, I've created two new classes on the map.

Here's a couple versions of the latest update.

Note: If anyone wants to post these elsewhere online, you can easily. These images are hosted on tinypic.com, all you need to do is right click on the image you want to post and copy the image location (url), then use that at where ever you're posting.

I would prefer "focusing on the hearing-safe humane harvesting of overpopulated deer."
Bambi's mom may have been harvested by a hunter, but 2/3 of the forest animals would have starved if not for Hunters.

A couple new updates to the color scheme of these maps. This should make it clearer which states allow some sort of hunting with suppressors and which don't. There was some confusion about this on another forum. States where suppressed hunting is prohibited are now colored some shade of red.

Congratulations to the Georgians on the passage of the new firearms law and for now being able to hunt with suppressors.

As some know I am maintaining a map of states that allow suppressed hunting. Does the Georgia law allow unrestricted suppressed hunting on public and private lands for game and non-game animals?

As far as I know Georgia only allows hunting with suppressed firearms on private land with permission. I also read a GA Senate Reaserch Office report that says using subsonic hunting ammo is illegal. Anyone know what that is about? I made a thread about it here; viewtopic.php?f=4&t=124005

No Problem. That's what it's there for. Thanks for the credit.

You may want to add that hunting with a suppressor will not be legal in Louisiana until August 1st, and the disclaimer to check with a state's Dept of Wildlife management for any restrictions before hunting in with a suppressor in that state.

From the Sun Sentinel:
Hunters of deer, turkey and other animals in Florida may soon be able to operate with lethal stealth under a state proposal to allow them to use silencers.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will consider a proposal at its Sept. 10 meeting in Kissimmee to permit silencers, also known as suppressors, for shooting deer, turkey, gray squirrels, rabbits, quail and crows.

Updating the Hunting With Suppressors map to reflect Alabama's current status in the not allowed column. I will add them into the allowed column, once I have a effective date for their law.

EDIT (8/26/2014): I have replaced the original map (http://i59.tinypic.com/k9v08.jpg) with the current one as Georgia's status was not correct. Georgia only allows suppressed hunting for game on private, not public land. Thanks to member 700PSS for the correction.

Seeing my state in pink seems appropriate, since it's run by a bunch of pinkos.

Actually, "Georgia" should be shaded the second block down (Legal for All Game Animals, on Private Land Only.)
•SUPPRESSED FIREARMS are now legal for hunting on private land with landowner permission.

•Suppressors: Lawfully possessed suppressors may be used for hunting on private property. Permission of the landowner is required.

Thanks for the heads up. The version of the law I read (http://www.legis.ga.gov/Legislation/20132014/139206.pdf Page 2, line 51) struck the prohibition on suppressors while hunting (seemingly on both public and private land). Is hunting with a suppressor on public land prohibited?

Yes. It is currently prohibited, under the new law. So WMA's, NF, etc. in GA are still a no go.

Again thanks for the correction. I just got off the phone with Georgia Department of Natural Resources and they confirmed this. I have revised the map to reflect this. (I am replacing the map above as well, so as not to get disinformation out there).

Hunting With Suppressor Bill Signed Into Law In Ohio

Post by Storm7 »

Hunting With Suppressor Bill Signed Into Law In Ohio

Gov. Kasich signed into law a comprehensive Pro-2A bill, which includes allowing hunting with suppressors in Ohio.

Congratulations Ohio!

Once an effective date is known and I have clarified any possible restrictions, I'll post a new version of the map.

http://www.nraila.org/legislation/state ... today.aspx
Today at a public signing ceremony, Governor John Kasich (R) signed into law House Bill 234, comprehensive pro-gun reform legislation. HB 234 will take effect in ninety days.

While originally a bill allowing for the use of suppressors while hunting, the Senate Civil Justice Committee added many other pro-gun provisions to HB 234. HB 234 then passed in the Ohio Senate by a 24 to 6 vote on December 9, and was concurred by the state House of Representatives by a 72 to 21 vote on December 10.

HB 234 makes a number of positive changes to Ohio’s firearm laws. HB 234, as signed into law:
  • Improves the concealed handgun license process by (1) reducing the number of training hours required from 12 to 8 hours, (2) eliminating minimum length-of-residency requirements, (3) allowing non-residents who work in Ohio to apply for a CHL in the county or adjacent county in which they work, and (4) makes special provisions for members of the military who have been honorably discharged or retired, extending their competency certification from six years to ten years after honorable discharge or retirement.
  • Expands concealed carry reciprocity to visitors and persons temporarily in Ohio who have valid out-of-state licenses, regardless of whether the license-issuing state has entered into a reciprocity agreement with Ohio.
  • Repeals the prohibition on Ohio citizens buying and/or selling long guns or ammunition from only the five contiguous states of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Citizens of Ohio can now purchase and/or sell rifles and shotguns in any state as long as the firearm laws in both states are obeyed.
  • Includes a “shall certify” provision which requires a chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) to sign off on an application to transfer an item regulated by the National Firearms Act, once the application procedure and requirements are met. This provision eliminates personal bias towards NFA-related items, requiring CLEOs to sign off and process the application in the same way they do a concealed handgun license.
  • Allows for the use of firearm sound suppressors while hunting in the Buckeye State.
  • Brings Ohio’s definition of “automatic firearm” in line with the federal definition, limiting it to only any firearm designed or adapted to fire a succession of cartridges with a single function of the trigger.
Your NRA thanks you for your active involvement in the passage and enactment of HB 234, as well as the state legislators who voted for its passage. We also thank Governor Kasich for signing this important pro-gun reform into law.
