I know this thread is old.....but Missouri allows hunting with anything but a full auto and or nightvision/thermal vision all year. In addition, those deer hunting with semi autos cannot have magazines with a capacity more than 10rnds. No mention of suppressors/silencers in any state hunting regulations I can find.

i asked the MDC if hunting with suppressors and reply was; The Missouri Wildlife Code does not prohibit the use of a sound suppressor on a hunting weapon. If it is legal for you to possess a sound suppressor, then you can hunt with it too. I'll pass along, to our Regulations Committee, your suggestion for including such a statement in the Missouri Wildlife Code.

You are good to go with the SBR for hunting in KY. Really the only law is no full auto and no more than five rounds in the gun. Man I love Kentucky!!!

Don't give up hope. Is it possible that silencers and night vision are only illegal on game animals? And are coyote considered to be game animal?
Hunting of any kind with a suppressor is at the moment illegal in Alabama. This may be subject to change in the future if the right people can be gotten on board.

I think it might be time for a move in this direction in Alabama. We just added SBR's so why not hunting with a can. It's really needed here too. Right now it remains to be seen whether the coyotes or the wild hogs are going to win the race to dominance and absolutely decimate other species in the process. I'd be willing to sign a petition, etc., if someone could get the right set of ears to listen.

Hunting with a suppressor is legal, and encouraged, here in New Zealand.

In the State of Texas, there's a group of us from the 68Forums that are working together, industry wide, to lobby for the State Game Law to be changed to allow hunting Game Animals (White Tail, Mule Deer, Pronghorn Antelope, Turkeys, etc.) with a suppressor. This has come after individuals have talked with members of the TSRA (Texas State Rifle Association) that indicate a good possibility to get this passed, if we can perform as a group, collectively as hunters and pro-2A/suppressor usage, to persuade the powers to be that we are indeed over the tired cliche's and excuses.

Any one in the State of Texas interested in helping out in this area, please feel free to contact myself, or the Texas State Rifle Association.

Indiana is a NO HUNTING state in relation to cans. I sent an email inquiring about the taking of nuisance animals where no permit or license is required. That state has some seriously messed up statutes.

Put red lines on Indiana. No WILD animal hunting at all. Keep your pets inside.

A couple months ago another firearms enthusiast and I designed and built this map. It has been updated to reflect AZ and TX new status. It was initially based on Gemtech's PDF Document

ETA: Updated the image with a last modified timestamp.

BriggsRi,
You are very welcome.

In Addition:
I've spoken with my partner on this project and he is ok with sharing the source of this file to anyone who would like it. For most people the PNG graphic will suffice, as we will maintain the map as states change their laws/rules regarding hunting with suppressors. However, if someone wants to independently manage the file themselves (for say, their own website), PM me and I'll e-mail you a copy of the latest source file. The only thing we ask is that the credit comments remain in all version of the file. I will do my best to update this thread with a PNG version of the map as thing's change.

The source file is in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format, which is an XML/text file that is relatively easy to edit.

Note: If you wish to use a PNG version(s) (shown in my last post) on a website, forum, blog etc., please download it and host it on you own image hosting site (or website).

Thanks and Regards,
Storm7

bringing this thread back! In reference to the map, I am under the impression and people have mentioned on here that it is legal to hunt non-game in FL as long as it is on private land. Is the fact that it is only on private land the reason it is not indicated on the map? Just want to verify because I am thinking of doing a hog hunt in the near future.

The map is maintained by Gemtech so I wouldn't hang my firearm freedom or anal virginity on it.

If I wanted to know about game and non-game laws in Florida w/r/t silencers I would probably go here http://myfwc.custhelp.com and search for silencer.

Good call Doubloon, that map is outdated and shows it is illegal to posess or hunt with a suppressor in Oklahoma, which is incorrect. It is legal to posess a suppressor there and it is also legal to hunt with a suppressor on land that you own. I pulled this quote off the 2012 hunting regs, the 2013 regs aren't due out until next month.

"Suppressors may not be used to hunt game animals, game or nongame birds. Beginning Nov. 1, 2012, landowners hunting on their own property and guests of those landowners will be permitted to use suppressors."

So it's been a year and a half since I posted here. I've been kind of busy and the map kind of fell by the wayside. On an impulse, I decided to update the map tonight. I took note of some of the complaints and confusion on it and tried to head in the direction of fixing those issues. I've added a new class to the map: States where suppressors are prohibited. This was to alleviate the confusion between states that didn't allow hunting with cans and states that didn't allow cans. Which were combined in the last map. In addition, Oklahoma, Indiana, North Carolina, and Wyoming have been added as states that allow hunting.

I've read some of the posts above about hunting on private lands Florida etc. In doing some research, there are a number of states that have one off cases where generally they prohibit hunting with a can, but in some circumstances allow it under restricted conditions. For now, until I can catalog these cases and come up with a scheme to show them on the map, I'm going to ignore them. In essence, the map applies to the general public, not law enforcement, nor agent's of the states. As far as if and where hunting is allowed with a suppressor, the map will mean either in general or on public lands only.

In adding the new states, I tried to validate their status as best I could. I'm reasonably certain the ones I added are correct. If I was incorrect in adding any, or if I missed any, please let me know and I'll correct the oversight. I'll be visiting this thread regularly over the next couple weeks to a month.

P.S. The map is not maintained by Gemtech. I have no relationship with them. The map was initially based on their list of states and still is to some degree. Although, I agree that that list is not maintained very well and I'll likely give it less weight in the future.
