Remington R12 availability

Post by fishman »

The remington R12, for those who aren't familiar, is just a military/police version of the remington VersaMax.

14.5" or 18" barrel, extened tube, optional pistolgrip, 4 sight options, etc.

it is only in the remington defense catalog, not the civilian one, even though the gun is legal for civilains to own, even the SBS version assuming you get a stamp.

Ive looked for one for sale and came up with nothing.

can someone with more knowledge than me explain? which guns in the defense catalog can civs buy? can they be ordered through most gun stores? Might i find an R12 for sale used by some police department?

they don't even sell the 18" barrel to civilians as far as i can tell :(

I think if I were to buy a semi-auto Remington today, it would be their new V3. It has the gas system of the Vera Max, but has no recoil spring system in the stock. That means one could attach a folding stock to one. Haven't touched one yet, but I'll bet ya an 870 stock will fit on one, that mean all aftermarket 870 stocks would too.

the VersaMax's 3.5" shell capability would be of greater benefit to me for coyote and goose hunting. plus, they dont make shorter barrels for the V3 (yet).
