Looking for powders for 9mm subs
I've narrowed the search down to bullseye, unique of VV n320. Problem is they are nowhere to be found. Anybody have more available alternatives or a super secret powder source?

I've been using SR-4756. Always seems to be available in these parts anyways...

Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
Titegroup is what I use for subs, I use some Win231 and Unique at times as well.
Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
Win 231 here, very quiet. I'll use VV320 if I ever find any though.
Stupid, stupid NFA items.
Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
VV N340 works very well also.

Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
Anybody use vv n310? Found a source for it local.
Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
I use Titegroup and VV 3N37 (because it was available).Anybody use vv n310? Found a source for it local.
The VihtaVuori Reloading Manual shows that N310 is too fast a powder for 147gr bullets, although it works well for 90gr bullets in 9mm. The VV reloading manual shows the sweet spot VV powder for 147gr bullets is the impossible to find N330 powder followed by N340 and then N320 or 3N37. Here's their reloading manual online.
http://www.lapua.com/en/products/reload ... odata/6/34
I said 'sweet spot' above because N330 and N340 show 100% burn (in Quickload) in a 4.3" barrel like the M&P9, while VV 3N37 shows 96% burn. That's important if you want to minimize the blinding flash when shooting at night.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
I had trouble getting my Glock 17 to cycle using solo1000 over a 147 grain bullet without going way over the max published load data. (If that's important to you?) I'm currently using and like bullseye the best of anything I've tried.
The solo1000 did work nicely when I "juiced" up the load a bit and if that's the only powder available I would buy again even knowing that in my gun I need to up the powder charge. Pretty sure that solo1000 would function my AR15 just fine, and that happens to be my primary consumer of 9mm subloads anyway.
Good luck on your search. My only recommendation is check as often as you can and be prepared to buy smaller quantities if that's all you can find.

Since your in Wisconsin, check out Recob's over by Sauk City/Sauk Prairie. They had Unique in stock as of last weekend. Their Hazmat fees are pretty cheap if you want it shipped.

Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
I found some VV n340 at wideners and snatched it up. It was gone within the hour. Should be good for now. Although I hear that the VV plant was closing.
Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
Titegroup and W231 here. But mostly Titegroup.
Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
Old data from Accurate was low. Current data lists 3.4-3.8 gr for max with 147, and that matches what I find with Solo1000. My load is usually ~3.6 gr with 147 moly lead, and I get ~915 fps. The problem with Solo is lot variance can be as high as +/- .4 gr.wildfowler wrote:I had trouble getting my Glock 17 to cycle using solo1000 over a 147 grain bullet without going way over the max published load data. This is my main powder for .32, .38, 9mm, .40 & .45.

Thanks. I just saw the new reload chart from western powder. I may need to revisit this because I just so happen to have two jugs of it on hand.Ben B. wrote:Old data from Accurate was low. I'm using a 147 grain round nose full metal jacket bullet over 3.6 grains of IMR 700-X
Re: Looking for powders for 9mm subs
Powder Valley has some Vihtavuori N310 in stock now.
I've been using Titegroup, although I'm loading 124 grain bullets subsonic.
