45acp plinking recipe please
45acp plinking recipe please
Looking for a recipe for 45acp 200 fmj round nose. I'm torn between a couple different powders, suggestions please.
Are you looking for use with a suppressor or just plinking in general?
What powders do you have on hand already?
I stock for 45 ACP - Bullseye, Reddot, Unique (the velocity champ)

200 grain JHP or lead with 7 grains unique CCI large pistol primer - 7.5 max
230 grain Round noise 7 grains of Unique (max)
185 grain cast SWC plinker is 3.5 to 4.5 grains Bullseye or 4 to 4.5 RedDot
200 grain cast SWC 3.5 to 4.5 Bullseye 4.5 to 5 grains RedDot
Part of the reason I use RedDot is because I went in with some Shotgun Shooters and purchased the powder at a good buy. so Bullseye and Unique if I was just buying powder for target and velocity or heavy bullet loads.
231 isn't a powder I ever played with much , I did pickup a couple pounds of BlueDot to try with 45 and it has potential but I wouldn't call it a favorite. I have yet to try Clays in 45 but it appears to be suited. The trick for reloading is to purchase a powder that you can use in multiple calibers that you are reloading - for example 9mm, 45 ACP and 44 mag - Unique works accross all these from high pressure small case to low pressure large case to high pressure large case. So I like it for that versitility.
