308 subsonic loads for 5R

Be careful -- low-volume ratio loads can detonate. Mangement not responsible for load data. Use at your own risk.

Can I shoot a 200 grain scenar without problems like baffel strikes? How does the supressor affect the speed? Does it increase it due to it making the barrel longer or is there no difference? Well I guess I will know this weekend after testing I will chrono the loads so we will see.
John,
Looking forward to seeing your test results ... Good luck with it.

First thing i notice when comparing lapuas subsonic brass fired once to sako regular brass once fired is that the Lapua subsonic brass is just about 10% less volume. Now I have 2 loads ready for testing 11.5gr N32C and 12.5 gr N32C pushing a Lapua 185 HPBT Scenar. Range report coming later today. In the near future I will have my own 250 yard range and testing will be much easier.

Lapua subsonic factory load pushes 296m/s my 185 gr with 12,5gr N32c was going 345m/s. The scenar HPBT key holed at 3 meters on paper. New test with 100 grain hollow points and 10.5 gr N32c planned for tomorrow. Or maybe this afternoon lol I will also try lapua naturalis with 10.5 just to see how it does

So lapua mega 150gr with 11gr n32 c 349 m/s nice round holes in paper 6,5 grams hollow points with 11grains 469 m/s way too quick. I will continue with mega and 10.5 gr N32C and see what that does. I did shoot a couple of 22 Winchester subsonics just go see how slow I need to go and they came out at about 310 m/s

I have found out the propriety powder Remington uses in their 220 gr.300 Blackout subs along with HSM Ammunition 300 AAC Blackout 208 Grain Hornady A-Max Subsonic but this Lapua 308 loading has got me stumped but I believe I will solve this mystery eventually, They are excellent in performance and I really like that 200 gr bullet. Right now I'm using IMR Trail Boss and it's Just OK.

10.6 gr (measured on my scale) of Vihtuvouri N32C behind the Lapua Mega SP 150gr gave me a speed of 330m/s. Shot out of Remmy 700 SPS Tactical 1:12 .308 Ase Utra suppressor. Full length dies from RCBS col 66mm. It spread about 25 mm at 50 meters. Temperature was about 34degrees F. I noticed no difference in speed with or without suppressor. I did grease the bullets with thin layer of RCBS case lube. Going to load up some more and try next weekend. I have the lapua 200 grain subsonic bullet coming this week so that might be next weekends project

Please let me know how the 200 gr Lapua bullets work out. I assume your using Tin Star, I'm told that is similar to IMR Trail boss. Best of luck, just be sure the bullet doesn't key hole before you attache the suppressor.

I'm looking forward to seeing your test results. Will you be shooting it in the same rifle you described earlier?

Here are some of my subsonic results:

Equipment Used:
Rifle: Remington 700
Barrel: 16.5", 1-10" twist rate with AAC Breakout
(suppressor not attached)
Chronograph: Oehler 35
Ammo info:
Brass: Hornady Match trimmed to 2.005"
(brass unaltered other than full-length sized and trimmed)
Primer: CCI Large Rifle
Bullet: 168 gr Hornady BTHP
Powder: Vihtavuori N32C (Tin Star)
COL: 2.800"

Results:
Charge range: 12.5 gr - 10.0 gr Viht N32C (Tin Star)
(fps data are 3-shot averages from chronograph)
12.5 gr - 1302 fps
12.0 gr - 1268 fps ... 34 fps slower
11.5 gr - 1217 fps ... 51 fps slower
11.0 gr - 1127 fps ... 90 fps slower
10.5 gr - 1117 fps ... 10 fps slower
10.0 gr - 1064 fps ... 53 fps slower

220 gr Hornady BTHP (same powder)
11.5 gr - 1002 fps
(Stopped here. Those are already going too slow for me,
and all the other loads I had with me were even slower.)

My subsequent loads for a 220 gr bullet have been:
12.3 gr. I haven't shot them over a chronograph
yet but I suspect they will be right where I want them.
It surprised me that there was such a big decrease between 11.5 gr and 11.0 gr (90 fps) but only a 10 fps drop between 11.0 and 10.5 gr.

My goal is to keep them flying around 1050-1080 fps - 10.0 gr did exactly that (with the 168's).

Disclaimer: this is my data as shot through my rifle with the weather conditions as they were at the time I shot them (cloudy, mid-80's, and humid with a light breeze). Your results may vary. Also, if you have a slow twise barrel you may want to make sure they stabilize before shooting through your suppressor.

11.5 grains Vihtavuori n32c give me 322.4m/s 200 grain Lapua subsonic bullet sounded sweet and low now for some accuracy testing. 22 degrees and clear skys at testing range. 1056 feet per second.

Testing 11.2 grains in the morning and 2 mm free flight lets see how that will do. I also loaded a couple of 100grains hpt 44 grain V140.
