Military dehydrated canned meats

Post by Nypto »

I provided perimeter lights in the Army back in '68-'73 for the XVIII Airborne corps. I devised a plan to turn off the power for only a minute. My cohorts climbed under the mess tent as soon as the power went down and grabbed all they could.
The came back with a can about 6 inches by 12 inches. We opened it up like a spam can key and found a large piece of cardboard?? Directions said re-hydrate for 1/2 hour. After the 1/2 hour we found the best looking perfect porkchops ever. Couldn't believe they were once cardboard??
Anyone have any links to where I might raid some more of these, and others?
Searches on the Internet yeilded nothing.

Sounds a lot like the Mountain House porkchops, which makes sense since those you had were probably made by Oregon Freeze Dry, but it is somewhat hard to find the Pork in stock. I believe they only have those after contract over-run for DOD
Stupid, stupid NFA items.
