Post by Derek84 »

So we all do stupid things as kids. Being a small town country boy, everything involved drinking and a slow learning process. Eventually ended up with a duii and the another a year later. Oops, that was stupid. Its been 9&10 years since my duii's and am about to pull the trigger on an SWR Octane 9 and just wanted to confirm that I would be cleared.

If you can legally buy a firearm then you can legally buy a suppressor since it is, by definition, a firearm.

If you are convicted an sentenced to a year or more , even if the judge let you off with no time served, They need to know and most likely you will be denied. simple as that.

The only time I served was two days which I requested in lieu of 120hrs of community service.

Charming? Really? Don't be a smartass. As a patrol Deputy, smartassness is gonna do nothing but ruin your day. What do you think the Fed's take on all that is? Even more remote tolerance for such behavior... guaranteed. You transgress and you might get the opportunity to practice your charming skills on your new best buddy... and cellmate... Bubba.

Your DUI's won't, unless the couple is more than a couple that put's you into the felony DUI class, won't be an issue.

NFA item possession compliance is the big boys club. Act like it.

What is your problem, buddy. My charming comment was obviously a joke. If you want to talk about growing up, maybe you should take a bit of your own advice. You have no idea who I am or what the circumstances were. If you react like that to a little joke I can only imagine how poorly you would act if you ever needed your wits about you. As a patrol deputy please remember you are here to serve the people, just like every other gov official. It is because of that that I respect all law enforcement officers and their job. Its too bad though, that not all in your profession understand their role. God speed none the less. I hope you are able perform your duties without incident until the day you retire.

Not everybody likes jokes and firearms together, not a fan myself.

As far as the "you are here to serve" comment goes ... good luck with that. :D

It has nothing to do with luck. That is how its supposed to be and any government official who acts and thinks otherwise is in violation of the constitution and the founding principles of this country. Also see- tyranny

The internet is not a firearm. So there should be no problem with jokes. If people have an issue with jokes and the internet they probably should have limbed that stick before the inserted it into their ass.

Among drinkers, there are people who have had a DUI, and people who probably should have had DUIs. I did stupid s--t in my younger days also, and it doesn't take much to be over the limit. Luckily, no DUIs, and I do my drinking at home.
There's a law enforcement clubhouse in my county where, on a Saturday night, most every sworn LEO could be handed a DUI, but who's going to pull them over?

This forum can be brutal, especially if you have a "low post count". Do not be discouraged.

Contrary to popular belief and whatever may be written on the side of the police vehicles in your neck of the woods agents of law enforcement are not paid to protect or to serve you. They are paid to regulate behavior, enforce order and protect and serve the State. I don't believe there is anything in the constitution requiring law enforcement agents to "serve" and IIRC SCOTUS has ruled police have no constitutional duty to protect citizens.

Anyway, I started out trying to help you and I'm certainly not interested in picking a fight with you but try not to bow up so much over words you read on the interwebs.

I strongly disagree. Any person who recieves a paycheck from their state or fed gov is an employee of the people and so should they serve. This is not the place to argue politics so I will drop it. I appreciate the help. I do however not have any tolerance for arrogance or blissful ignorance like our friendly deputy spit out. He should hold himself to a higher standard.

Yea protect ad serve. Alot of cops have a bad attitude. It's sad really. And the one guy that would refuse to do what ever this guy says would get the s--t beat out of him. Cops are so used to people doing exactly as they say even if they are not in their legal bounds yet have a fit when someone says no legally.

Truth. I might take it further and propose that they are supposed to be agents of the law, specifically part of the legal system. They are NOT service people like your Department of Transportation worker, municipal waste processing employee, or elected official.

Furthermore agents of the law are to be blind, just like the courts. We are a nation of laws, not men. LEO is no so much about "service" as it is about law. Big difference.

“The United States is a nation of laws: badly written and randomly enforced.”
~American rock musician Frank Zappa (1940-1993)

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."
~Anatole France (1844 - 1924), The Red Lily, 1894, chapter 7

If you were charged as a Juvenile, it don't matter if you got 10 felonies, it will be sealed once you turn 18. If you were charged as an ADULT, thats a different story. Rule of thumb, if you can pass nics, you can pass NFA.
