Will we ever get silencers out of the NFA?

All I want is to not bother the neighbors and save my hearing.

A major change like this is a gradual process. First, you have to build a political base of support. That's how Shall Issue CCW spread across the USA, and now you can carry CCW in National Parks. There is strong support to pass a National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (57 votes in the Senate for the Cornyn amendment in March 2013). The suppressor issue is not even a major issue with the gun groups (NRA, GOA, 2nd Amendment foundation, JPFO). When removing suppressors, SBRs and SBSs from the NFA becomes a major issue with the gun groups, only then will there be a possibility of politically doing it.

You have to first get all gun owners behind it, including the Fudds.

A lot of people have worked hard to make suppressors legal in more States, and now a movement to make hunting with suppressors legal in more and more States is spreading rapidly. These political gains will help build a political base to eventually remove suppressors from the NFA, along with SBRs and SBSs.

I think it is possible to eventually do this, but it isn't going to happen soon. There is a real need to preserve people's hearing and also to lessen shooting noise to non-shooters, so there is a strong logical basis for the whole endeavor.

We must build strong support with the gun groups in regards to suppressors. That ought to be our plan.

Personally, I think there is more popular support to stop the Federal war on drugs and legalize marijuana, than there is right now to remove suppressors, SBRs and SBSs from the NFA.
You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

Best thing to do is wait for your tax stamp while you contemplate.

Stop that emowhoring BigD. Actually all it will take is for a State (I pick Ohio) to decriminalize possession of a suppressor. Once the possession "in accordance with Federal procedures" is removed from state legal code, the conversation moves into the moot category.

The Fed agent authority, at least in Ohio, is by state law, subordinated to local (County Sheriff), authority. If legislative action by the Ohio powers that be, move suppressors out of the firearm category by legal action, then it has effectively moved such devices out of the purview of the Feds within Ohio.

That would be interesting to see. Does it work for controlled substances as well? There seems to be quite a bit of debate on this topic but I can't get interested in it because all my favorite substances have been decriminalized for a long time.

Technically so, but I'm not seeing that as a probable thing. Too much... infrastructure investment...

Yeah, I follow you brotha. Every once in a while I raise an eyebrow, and give the "you guys are unreal, mouth twitch", though.
