Ranking of Best States for gun owners

Post by johndoe3 »

G&A has a good article ranking all the States on gun freedom based on 5 categories.

You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

Not many surprises there, sad that CO has fallen so far behind.

The criteria selected and the weight given to each factor determine the ranking, of course. I do not agree with Ohio being ranked so low, but it depends on what particular law cause you personal angst verses another person. For example, comparing Ohio to Pennsylvania: Ohio has shall-issue CCW, but requires 12 hours of instruction. PA has shall-issue CCW with no instruction required. Ohio has statewide preemption. PA has statewide preemption -- except Philadelphia. Ohio places no restriction on transfer of firearms between individuals. PA requires all handgun transfers to go through an FFL.

It all depends on which bothers you more.

[OH/PA was just an example -- not trying to pick on on PA.]

Yeah. Also, I am in MA, which is the 48th best state. But I have learned to work within the laws.

I have MGs, silencers, every handgun I want. I can CCW, even in bars, which you cannot do in TX.

The most annoying laws here are no MSR with features (unless made before 1994 or SBRed, or you have an FFL - hence the way to get them).

No wide selection of handguns, unless private sale or FFL, hence the way to get them.

No normal capacity magazines unless made before 1994 or FFL, hence the way to get them.

People mostly deal with the 10 round mag limit by only buying 40 or 45 caliber handguns. I believe 40 outsells 9mm by 5:1 on MA. So the anti gunners caused most people to switch to more powerful handguns.

So a G27 instead of a G23, or just reduced capacity mags for guns large enough to otherwise carry a higher capacity?

You can't buy a new Glock in MA. No loaded chamber indicator or magazine disconnect.

I mean like a 10 shot S&W M&P 45 Auto over a 16 shot 9mm version.

MA rejected that as not effective but then refused to define what an effective device would be.
