Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Representative Ron DeSantis of Florida introduced a proposed constitutional amendment on Tuesday for term limits in the Congress.
They propose limiting senators to 2 terms (12 years) and representatives to 3 terms (6 years).
I strongly agree with the idea, but think that representatives should be limited the same as senators--6 terms for Representatives (12 years total). That gives a better spread of experience to handle the nation's business well and have experienced committee chairmen, while eliminating the current lifetime job in Congress that many have had. 12 years for Representatives would also have a better chance of getting the votes necessary in Congress to send the constitutional amendment to the States for ratification.

You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time...and those are pretty good odds.

I'm curious about the difference in overall time limit as well.
Also, does the amendment provide for an representative becoming elected as a Senator or vice-versa? Is the time cumulative in Congress, or just limited to the respective house?

Congress will never, let me re-phrase that:
NEVER
pass a bill that will make term limits for themselves.

I don't care what your chart says

Still, the bill is useful even when it fails, because it puts onto the legal record who stood where.

Remember when they all voted to exempt themselves from insider trading laws? And nothing happened.
