SD Legislature passes Constitutional Carry, Guv threatens veto, Vetoed 3/17

The South Dakota Senate passed Constitutional Carry on Monday by 23-11 (House Bill 10-72), and the Bill now goes to the Guv.

Guv Daugaard (R) previously vetoed Constitutional Carry in 2012 and threatens to veto it again in 2017. The SD Sheriffs Association and SD Police Chiefs Association both oppose the Bill.

If enough South Dakota people contact the Guv and urge him to sign HB 10-72, he may be persuaded to sign it into law.

Currently, the State Senate is 1 vote short of a veto override and the State House is 10 votes short for an override.

South Dakota Guv Daugaard (R) vetoed 2 pro-gun Bills on Friday--HB-1072 Constitutional Carry, and HB-1156 which would have allowed concealed carry in the State Capitol with an enhanced permit.

Veto override is a possibility, but given the votes noted in the post above, veto override is not likely.

Let's hope they bring it up for a override vote not matter what, because that'll flush out the anti-gunners that voted for it to look pro-gun, knowing the govenror would veto it.

It's quite likely that it'll get even fewer votes for that reason, but at least let folks know who their real friends are.
