TX and TN pro-gun laws signed by Guvs last week

Post by johndoe3 »

Texas Guv Abbott signed another pro-gun Bill into law last week, showing that he is a "doer" for gun rights and not just a "talker". The new law reduces the cost of a first time Concealed Carry license from $140 to $40. 5-year renewals on CCW permits are reduced from $70 to $40.

I don't have Dr. John Lott's book handy, but in it, Lott's research studies showed significant changes in numbers of permits based on cost. Texas should see a 10-20% increase in permits over the trendline due to the new lower cost. After Texas passed permitted open carry, the number of CCW permits climbed from ~900,000 to the current ~1,200,000, a 33% rise.

Tennessee Guv Haslam signed 2 pro-gun Bills into law last week. One would give citizens a private cause of action against localities who pass ordinances in contravention to TN's State Preemption laws. TN seems to have a problem with localities ignoring the State's gun pre-emption law. Now local gunowners can more easily take the locality to court and have their ordinances overturned.

The second new law is somewhat obscure, but it allows a person who has received a "protection order" to immediately be lawful to carry a gun in TN (if not a prohibited person).

The Texas Senate passed a law and sent it to the Guv on Monday which allows CCW permit holders to store a gun in their locked car/pickup on school property.

Great law and the TX Guv will almost certainly sign it.

With the new law(if signed) in Texas, at least a person doesn't have to be disarmed if they go to a school (and for teachers and school workers, it means not being disarmed to and from the workplace).

Luke Woodham was halted by the principal who had gone to his car and gotten his illegally carried 1911. The principal could have been charged federally or under state law. In a liberal state like CT or NJ, he almost certainly would have been charged.
