Nope, CMP would not have access to these. IIRC, they were sold to Korea, not loaned like the others. So, Korea is seeking to sell them to an importer for resale.

Not that it matters, still a BS move. The drivel that the brady bunch is spouting is just amazingly stupefying.

"M1 carbines can hold high-capacity ammunition clips that allow dozens of rounds to be fired before re-loading"

Really? 'Dozens' of rounds from a clip? I thought they took up to 30 round magazines.

If any good comes out of this, it will be more things to bash the Democraps for.

Not that Bush would not have done the same.

the typical government measuring system. measure with a micrometer mark with chalk and cut with a chainsaw.

not a single "department" knows anything on why this is bad. but i can see some kind of reasoning against the carbines.

the m1 carbines were meant to be fully-automatic. the garand's wern't if it were me the garand's get an easy pass and jobs would be created to grandfather the carbines.

if the departments wanted to be ass holes they could buy them cheap and sell them to the civilian market for a mark up.

on the flip side, this does manage the value of the current amount of m1's/carbines.

with a tinge of sincerity , who the hell would tote around a 4 foot rifle robbing people

Yeah, but put that 4 ft bayonette on it and NOW you've got a scary thing. It's the lug I'm sure.

I guess the good news is if these weren't on loan to S.Korea and due to come into the CMP. If the Koreans own them, all they have to do is wait until the next administration I would think and try again. Would have been a sadder day if 800k classics ended up in the shredder.

I liked the part where when the press contacted the white house all questions were deferred -
-to the Pentagon, who deferred
-to the U.S. Embassy in South Korea, who deferred
-to the State Department, who deferred
-to the ATF, who deferred
-to the DOJ, who deferred
-to the State Department, who said they want to "dispose" of the firearms.

Take hundreds of thousands of highly processed finished products that are in demand and destroy them, in a recession. Yeah, they know better than us.

Pressure the State Department To Allow Garand & Carbine Rifle Imports

Contact your congressman & senator and demand they allow the sale of US guns back to US citizens.

Don't just whine about it and let it go, send cards and e-mails, some elections are just around the bend you know, put some pressure on.
Demand stringent background and mental health checks on your politicians.

"A Korean government official said, "It's difficult to understand why the U.S. opposes the deal now, when we already shipped tens of thousands of these firearms to the U.S. in the early 1990s. We are trying to grasp the real underlying cause of this reversal through diplomatic channels." He added that because these firearms were originally made in the U.S., selling them back needs approval from Washington."

our administration will probably buy them all just to destroy them so that doesn't happen in the future :?

..what a load of bs, and most anti-gun people don't even know anything about guns and will believe everything they hear that proves their point, even when statistics straight up counter their arguments.

Too bad my senators are two of the worst. :x I guess I'll pick another state's senators and have them pick me up as an orphaned constituent.
