Illegal?

Post by Brandon1 »

A hypothetical question here.

If someone had a Colt AR lower and removed the sear block. Would he or she be in violation of the law? I ask this because there would be 2 extra holes in the receiver where the blind pin's went through the receiver and were pressed into the sear block.

This block would have to be removed to install a Timney trigger etc... What if after the block was removed the outer pin's were permanently reattached to the receiver by rockset or some other bonding agent? Would the receiver be considered a MG? The lower from the outside would still appear as any standard lower that had the sear block from the factory.

Thanks I am just getting into the whole NFA thing so I was curious.

The sear block hole is off set and is amuch bigger hole from where the GI sear hole would be, the sear block wasn't a requirement by law, it just something colt did to prevent the conversion to FA

No violation or creation of a MG by your description. As long as you don't mill a hole that would accept the auto sear you are fine, you could hollow out most of the receiver and be fine so long as that auto sear can't be installed.

Good to go.

I just went and did a search. I just wanted to be sure I did not do anything illegal.

Thanks again.

The fact that one has to even ask the question is sad.

If you are referring to my ignorance I apologize for asking a "stupid" question, but if you are referring to the law's I agree.

I'm sure he was referring to the law.

Sorry my intention my intention was not in any way to disparage you. I was simply stating that in a country that has the second amendment that we have such stupid and twisted nonsensical laws that one would have to even ask such a question. This is America we are protected from he government making laws that infringe on our right to keep and bear arms ( supposed to be anyway ) but the laws have become so convoluted that one has to question if removing a part is legal or not is in fact a very sad statement on the erosion of our rights.

I figured that was what you were referring to. I completely agree with your above post!

Sorry I jumped to conclusions about what you said. I just know that on some gun forum's there allot of chest thumpers, well you know.

If you are ever here in Alabama let me know I'll buy you a cold beverage of your choice.

RJ would use a dremel and a steady hand, at least Bowen is upping them one.

Dremel has such a negative connotation. I prefer the term "Hand Mill"
