I don't think you are being a jerk at all. Thanks for the explaination. I don't want to ruin my weapon for sure. I based my decision a long time ago off internet advice and a long phone conversation with Gordon. IIRC his logic was that the 18 keeps the gun closed longer and thus helps with suppression.

I'll try swapping back to the factory piece and compare them. I assume it's easy? I had my #18 piece put in by my smith when I dropped off the gun to have the SCAR-H mount perm attached...

I'll update the thread when I compare them.

Thanks for your input.

My PTR 91 has the old style metal trigger pak/pistol grip and I see yours has the newer polymer (Navy?).
Any advantage to one over the other?
I'm seeing the polymers for sale.

yeah, shooting a roller-locked weapon with an incorrect locking piece (one that doesn't have geometry) is a good way to get roller-marks in the receiver.

it's all about impulse- you gotta make sure that the bolt isn't unlocking too early / too late. it's all about the rollers, locking piece, and bolt-gap (not head-space, the bolt-gap). when it's all dialed in correctly, it's awesome.

I have an MP5 clone that sucks, but I set it up so that it takes a lot of energy to unlock the bolt. So, it's only reliable with my Trident attached. As a result, it's very smooth with the Trident. When I shoot unsuppressed, I change my out-of-spec bolt, which increases my bolt-gap, and then it cycles fine unsuppressed.

Every roller-locked gun is different..... you kind of have to find the sweet spot and tune it with rollers and locking piece. In my case, I tune it with different bolts, because Todd Bailey is a piece of s--t

:? So a piece that was mean to go into a weapon with a SHORTER barrel -that requires it to cycle "quicker" - is going to keep the gun closed LONGER than one that was meant to go into a longer barreled weapon that would cycle "less quick"? Would't the one that cycles "less quick" keep it shut longer, or one that keeps the bolt closed even longer and makes it cycle "more less quick"?

I prefer to chat with the person installing/servicing an automotive product as apposed to the salesman selling it.

It's just cosmetic IMHO.

Seems that the #17 / 36 degree is the way to go, if it works with guys using a 762Sd, it should work just fine with my SCAR-H.

I Youtubed the locking pice and it's clearly a picec of cake to swap out.

Question.

Can i use the Heavy Buffer with the collapsable stock?

TIA.

Thanks
Think the #17 may actually be for the .223 as the "base" is smaller in diameter than what I took out.
Supposedly NO problem since that's NOT where it locks up anyway.

#17 (36') is from the HK21, but is a compatible alternate for the G3/HK91/PTR-91 as well. Another option (if you find you need it) is the #9 (40') locking piece, also an alternate for the HK21 and yet another compatible piece for the G3/HK91/PTR-91. This gives you that intermediate option, between the standard, unmarked 45' locking piece and the #17 (36') locking piece.

Remember: A key issue is HKs is bolt gap. Use a set of feeler gauges to check this occasionally. While a bolt gap toward the higher end of the acceptable range is often desirable, as in the case of suppressed use, if you exceed 0.020" you may get a misfire. Also, sometimes using the lower angle pieces may result in insufficient bolt speed for normal cycling. Each rifle may be different and with wear over time, these things change, so you have to find what works for your particular rifle. As you eventually wear down the rollers, you may even have to replace then as well, even with different sizes to achieve the correct result.

WOW, that is a great list, glad I made it. LOL
It is posted over at HKpro also. Here
I made that chart a long time ago and it has a few mistakes, like locking pieces with no #s on them, G3 no # 45', 21 with no # SHOULD BE 50', but have a few 54' these are the ones that caused MANY 21s to BEAT you and the hatred started. :o
Also I didn't address some will need turned down to fit in different carriers and other slight mods, but they will all work in each other, well 7.62 and 5.56 will.

It is pretty easy to look at my chart and see that the longer the barrel the less degree they used and visa versa.

Send the brass FLYING like 2 benches over......lol.

I knew it was bad, but as a shooter you don't realize it as much.

You should set up a brass-catching bucket about 25 yards to the right and forward of the shooter. You only get points if the bullet hits the bullseye and the brass hits the bucket. 8)

Had mine out last weekend & took a coyote @ 11pm w/762SD & night vision @ 205 yards.
Dead hit 1st shot.
We laser ranged it when we collected him.
LOVE the accuracy!
