Passwords.....grrrrrr

It just took me about 15min to; not be able to log into an account, go through the security steps, get an email, and figure out wtf new password to use

I understand it's for "security", but don't these places know how many passwords a typical person needs, nowadays? How are you supposed to remember them all? You can;t write them down, for that would compromise security!

This was the criteria for the site in question:

Your Password:
Must be 8-32 characters long
Must include at least one letter and one number
May have special characters or punctuation (for example: ! # $ % + / = ? @ ~)
Must be different than your previous five Passwords
Must not match your User ID
Must not include more than 2 identical characters (for example: 111 or aaa) <-------------------really?
Must not include more than 2 consecutive characters (for example: 123 or abc) <-----------------really?
Must not use the name of the financial institution
(for example: JPM, MORGAN, CHASE)

I don't mind a regular word, but yeah, the capital letter, number, minimum characters crap drives me bonkers. Then you call customer support, they ask you for your password, now some yahoo has it and you gotta go home and change it. Boooo

Maybe you were kidding but ...

Two 'l's in a row does not appear to be a violation of the rules you posted. It looks like it takes 3 or more identical characters in a row like the example. I also don't see 3 consecutive letters in Hillary2016!, the closest thing is two consecutive number if "01" which is still not three consecutive like "012".

At any rates.

Think of three words that kind of go together. Do you have a cat? Is it pudgy?

Replace the spaces with a punctuation character of your choice.

fat!cat!

Add a number sequence. Maybe Sherlock Holmes had a cat.

Voila! A twelve character password (8-32 characters), at least one letter and one number, special characters or punctuation, not more than 2 identical characters (by any interpretation), not more than 2 consecutive characters and no banking institution I know but maybe descriptive of a few bankers.

This one even meets the requirement for at least one upper and one lower case letter like ick's Billary example.

Must be different from your last five passwords got your panties in a wad?

Password Nazis are dumbasses. The harder you make it for people to remember their passwords the more likely they are to write them down or use some other insecure method to aggregate them all.

Use a password storage application where you only have to remember one strong password to access the rest. That container can be stored on a cloud server (e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) so that you have access across platforms and offline. Just be sure to pick an application that has encryption and other secure features (e.g. software key file). Then activate two-step authentication on the cloud account to ensure that only authorized devices can access the account.

My passwords are long and random looking, but I only have to remember one of them.

You should not use the same password for two different sites.
