For F--k's sake, can we get some additional input on this?
Maybe the problem with Green0's site isn't the fact that it's a copy, it's the fact that it's a 3rd generation copy. You lose a little something at each iteration -- if he had copied directly from Tapout like AAC rather than going through an intermediary, maybe his site wouldn't look so lame.
I'm just sayin' ... it seems like AAC started this with their blog post, and now SOCOM posts the Tapout website and
AAC's copy is done with enough skill that it's clearly a copy. At least Green0's site is sufficiently sloppy that it's difficult to tell if it's strictly incompetence or perhaps incompetence coupled with ill-conceived innovation.
I'm no web designer, but I have a VERY strong suspicion that all three of the mentioned companies just used the same company that sells pre-made website designs. That's what we did with our insurance agency. It's the same reason that nearly all web forums look nearly identical.
I have no idea what went into the current site design, as it was done before i joined the team. But, the issue is not just design similarity, it is design similarity within the same industry- similarity amongst (and I use this word VERY lightly) competitors. Granted the other fellow has sold up to 50 cans, some blatantly racist, but in some general sense he is still a competitor.
the other site- It's a terribly heavy-handed attempt at a distressed look, then let's look at the product listings- Oh, why stacked rounded rectangle categories... that looks familiar. let's see the product page... oh, yup, name, then product image then paragraph description to the right. check!

Yeah, the menu layout and side panels from the tapout site are similar, but all of the other content on the tapout site is different.
