How can I identify a new or old 762sd?
After reading through this forum I understand there's 3 models. I just bought one and am assuming it's one of the last 2. I held it in the store and it was front heavy which left me wondering if it's the half steel, half inconel version. Does anyone know how to identify these?

Weight distribution bears NOTHING on inconel/ss.noscci wrote:After reading through this forum I understand there's 3 models. I just bought one and am assuming it's one of the last 2. Too similar in weight to notice at all.
Now if it were part Ti and part SS that would be noticeable.
What is the shape of the blast baffle, is it flat or a cone?

Haven't had a chance to go back to the store so I can't see it. Which blast baffle shape represents what? Also, would a muzzle brake be better for it than a flash hider?

Flat is an old one, cone is a newer one.noscci wrote:Haven't had a chance to go back to the store so I can't see it. Which blast baffle shape represents what? Also, would a muzzle brake be better for it than a flash hider?
If it has 51T then its a newer one, if its an 18T then its old.
I always recommend a muzzlebrake over a flash hider, they are alot easier to replace over trying to replace the blast baffle.

The "middle" design had cones as well Bender.
1. 18T, flat blast baffle
2. (rare, not sure if any in the wild) 18T with inconel cone blast baffle and steel remaining baffles
3. 51T with inconel cone cone baffle and steel remaining baffles This is the one that was discontinued in... 2012?
4. Re-introduced (2014) 762-SD - 51T with all-inconel baffles

Most people can't see past the blast baffle so I didn't elaborate.JasonM wrote:Bendersquint wrote:Flat is an old one, cone is a newer one.noscci wrote:Haven't had a chance to go back to the store so I can't see it. Truth... there is really no way to tell between the last 2 models, beyond perhaps calling AAC with the serial number and seeing if they can tell you?Bendersquint wrote:Most people can't see past the blast baffle so I didn't elaborate.JasonM wrote:Bendersquint wrote:

Do stainless and Inconel look different in Xrays?Bendersquint wrote:We can always X-Ray it...JasonM wrote: Truth... there is really no way to tell between the last 2 models, beyond perhaps calling AAC with the serial number and seeing if they can tell you?

Re: How can I identify a new or old 762sd?
I have a 762SD that uses the 18 tooth mount but has a cone blast baffle. Bought and transferred in the first half of 2010. Not sure if that falls in the "rare" category or not. I do use it though, mostly on a bolt gun with a really long barrel.JasonM wrote:Bendersquint wrote:Flat is an old one, cone is a newer one.noscci wrote:Haven't had a chance to go back to the store so I can't see it. Re: How can I identify a new or old 762sd?
Well I must be in the rare crowd too. I have an 18T model that has a cone blast baffle and was approved to me in July of 2009. It has about 6 or 7 baffles ahead of the blast baffle.

How To identify an older model 762SD. Do you need too apply a liberal dosage of Viagra to keep the can straight and concentric to the bore? No need to thank me.
