51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
SO I was at one of my favorite dealers today and to my dismay I was presented with a 51 tooth 762-SD. The reason I was so thrown off was because I specially asked this question here on the board and made my decision to buy my 762 SD because I was told this would not be happening.

Stop Reading and skip to below if you don't want to hear my rant.
Now I have to admit I LOVE MY CAN, but this is the problem I was trying to avoid and would have gladly waited because I wanted to be able to interchange my cans and have them all on common mounts so i would not have to dedicate cans to gun. Hell I called mike mers and also had my dealer call in just to make sure this was not going to happen. Now I have exactly what I did not want a dedicated can on different rifles that will be unable to interchange. Sorry guys if it sounds like I am bitching (because i am) but I pride my self on making the best informed decision to get the most bang for my buck and it is not like I can sell make a quick turna round on this item like your standard AR this is a purchase for a life time.
Now, I have called AAC and talked with THE MIKE MERS, and I have to tell you Mike is the only reason I still going to continue to go with AAC with future products. Mike did explain that the whole story (IE the 18-51 switch over) to make a long story short, The guys in Production apparently never passed the message down to anyone in the know so by the time it can out it was too late for me anyway.
My Feelings:
I guess you don't want to leave a bunch of 18t suppressors on the shelves while everyone goes for the new and improved model. Wonder with the m4-1000 will follow/ i give it 6 months.
Any how this has been a hard post for me to write as I have whole heartedly bought into the AAC lifestyle (as many of you have)
I just hope when I finally put in paperwork for my m4-2000 they don't suddenly switch to the NEW 72 tooth ratchet mount 4 months later.
RANT OVER: NOW ON TO BUSINESS
I have brought this up before but would like to have some further clarification
Is there any way possible to upgrade a 18t suppressor to accept a 51 tooth ratchet system? I wont try tell you how to do it. But this might be a problem the guys in R&D should take up so that those of us with an 18t system can be brought up to speed. or maybe a discount (buy off) on a new can. just a thought.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
I understand your predicament, but as an early adopter you should understand that a company can't hold back the production of newer better products at the risk of pissing off their existing customers. I don't know how they'd go about converting an 18T to 51T, so good luck with that.

I know, just I saw this coming tried to get around it (by holding off), but then was assured it was not going to, so I pressed on and bought it.st33ve0 wrote:I understand your predicament, but as an early adopter you should understand that a company can't hold back the production of newer better products at the risk of pissing off their existing customers. I don't want AAC to stop innovation and I know I am demanding a lot, it just seems like I got suckered into buying last years model while what I really wanted and was holding out for was being built. I know that is not how it really went down and that I am complaining more that I should ( cause it is a great can), but that does not stop my with the feeling that I got left with a bag of s--t in my hands.
I guess the only real option for me now it to just press on and have dedicated can (something I was trying all along to avoid). Oh well Live, learn, get over it.
Thanks for letting me vent a little.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
I did the same thing as you. I thought it would be smart to get a 51T for all the fancy new mounts but I also liked the price and versatility of the 762-SD and read that there was no intention of moving the design to 51T. Hopefully AAC doesn't send 18T to the graveyard too soon and they offer some 18T brakeouts and brakes for some time to come.

wait wait wait....this is true? Ok, that pisses me off something fierce! I just picked up my can on Friday and haven't even shot it yet. I would have been glad to wait for the new 51T, it would solve a lot of my problems. IE, needing a different mount for my AR. Ok, I may have to look into another company next time around, this has left a really bad impression on me.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
People complained when they added the second spring to the 18T mount. I guess they should never make product improvments. That would solve everything and they would get less compliants like this. I have a 18T 762SD and I love it, sure it has the old one spring mount but it still works.
BOYCOTT AAC for constantly improving thier products.
That will teach them!

Going a little more discrete here due to some of my opinions...
Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
No one's calling for an end to innovation. People would just like timely communications on future releases so they can make the best decisions with their money. With the growing pains that AAC has been going through, they need to communicate even more in my opinion to retain their customers. Just be straight with us. Right now they are viewed by many as a leader in innovation but one of the worst in the industry for communication, manufacturing capacity and inventory management (eg - 18T mounts, TiRant 45, Brakeouts, even the TShirts, etc). Luckily hobbiest marksman and collectors are a fickle crew and we'll usually forgive just about anything if your product is desireable enough.kalikraven wrote:People complained when they added the second spring to the 18T mount. I actually like 18T a lot more and hope AAC continutes to offer it and support the cans with muzzle devices.
Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
I'm still reeling from the 300 dollar ass fucking I took on my TiRant in 45, now this s--t?
Do you actually believe that anyone at AAC didn't know this change was in the works/gonna happen?
Deny, Deny, Deny and then plead "the janitor didn't pass the word", my fucking ass.
F--k me, Major Malfunction has a shipment of new 51T 762SD's inbound.
When do you think he ordered those bitches?
Do you think he ordered them thinking they were 18T models?
Who do you think took his order/sold him those cans?
As far as stifling innovation so as not to piss off customers is concerned, thats a load of s--t. Nobody is asking them to do that.
The point folks are trying to make is that someone bought/will buy a 762SD 18T yesterday/today thinking that its the most current and up to date model and it's not.
The point to the Op's original post is that he asked AAC about this change MONTHS AGO BEFORE HE DECIDE TO BUY and they shined him on to help clear out their inventory.
Awesome.

Not what I said. I heard the rumor that it was going to 51T like everyone else. I was told that it going to 51T was on indefinite hold for the foreseeable future. I guess the foreseeable future is 6 months or less. I made my choice to purchase the latest version of the suppressor they had, and was willing to wait if the new version was going to be out soon. I chose the 762SD because it works on multiple platforms. I would have jumped for joy if I could have been in on the 51T 762SD, I wouldn't have to worry about not having additional mounts available. Now I've also been told that new 18T mounts are going to be supported and be made by years end. I no longer believe this, and now wish I had gone an alternative route. They said this within the same breath they all said that the 18T mount is not going away. I have no issue with change, but I feel like I was lied to. If they were going to improve the can, they could have announced it, and then all would have been well with the world.
I'm glad they are moving forward and providing innovative products for shooters. However, when you factor in the cost and wait of the $200 tax involved with buying suppressors. I think it would be courteous to let their customers know that such change is coming. This would allow them to have all the information they can have regarding their purchase. Like I said, I will look around for my next purchase, if I find alternatives I will likely go that route, not because they are constantly improving their products, but because they haven't been communicating well.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
I am really glade I am not alone on this, But I can tell you that this problem goes deeper than the people on this thread. It was a individual at the shop I frequent that spoke up and showed me the new one and why would he do that? He was also pissed because he was in the same spot I am. Now, I am not trying to start problems. but AAC should take a closer look at this. I did buy the can with the idea that I would at least have a couple of years of having the latest model (so did many others), I got less than 4 months. and if you count the time in production, it was outdated before I even hit my hands. No matter how i look at it, it does seem and look like my self and others were "shine on to buy up old/new stock 18t inventory from suppliers before the new 51t hit shelves. Now that makes perfect business sense but the reason I went with AAC is because I did not think they would do this type of thing as they are a company built off its reputation for both "customer service" and innovation.
But like I said in the past and will repeat again "Now that Remington has bought out AAC there will be changes in many aspects of AAC"; Will be start seeing different cans made for CIV and MIL? Will certain thing not be available to CIV (Rebar Cutter = see other thread) because it is too dangerous in the hands of CIV / effective? Mil contracts have a way of changing companies everything else becomes second and if my fears prove correct CIV wil end up having their can made by bushmaster while Rem / AAC sells strictly to MIL. Honestly, There is nothing we can do except wait, watch and see.
This does make me worry about the future availability of 18t mounts. Looks like the m4-1000 is the only can supporting that mounting system now and that could change (well any time / probable will).
What really pisses me off is I sold this same bill of goods to many friends and co-workers telling them to buy the 18t 762-SD. Now I look like a jackass who does not know jack s--t about this company.

Found another post that I was in, in which the 18t 762-SD is confirmed to be the 2010 model and the 51t 762-SD is confirmed to be only a rumor (special run) and to not be in production for 2010

This is my first can.
Now, so far I see no downside to the 18T mount. HOWEVER, if down the road I start having problems with my can coming lose or if I need mounts for new weapons and the only ones I can find are 51T I'll be really pissed. I'm 28 years old and will probably be buying untold numbers of suppressors for the rest of my life seeing as how I already cant stand shooting unsuppressed. I really hope this is just an innocent mistake but ATC makes a good point. I hope if it is not then AAC will do something for those of us who purchased the 762SD under false assumptions.

Ok so I guess they should just post thier entire 5 year plan on the internet so everybody knows what they plan on doing to prevent things like this. Do you guys get what I'm saying??? It's not allways a good idea to talk about new products before they are released. Magpul follows this and so so alot of other companies.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
That is not what we are saying. And magpul produces products that do not require a $200 stamp and a 3-4 month wait to acquire. This has been addressed above, but to say that something is on hold indefinately then 4 months later they are shipping to dealers is a little disturbing. I dont expect to know what AAC is producing next year, but I would like to know what is coming out in the next 4-6 months to make an informed decision. The way it comes across is really fishy because there would be a lot of motive (unsellable product) for them to pull a bait and switch. It may very well be an innocent mistake, but even innocent mistakes have consequences and can hurt your image.kalikraven wrote:Ok so I guess they should just post thier entire 5 year plan on the internet so everybody knows what they plan on doing to prevent things like this. Do you guys get what I'm saying??? It's not allways a good idea to talk about new products before they are released. Magpul follows this and so so alot of other companies.
Magpul does not say something is not going to happen and then SURPRISES the industry with something it. And as far as I know I can sell Magpul products and upgrade at will, there is also not a 6-10 month wait on these items (unless there out of stock) and they are not controlled by the NFA, so I don't get the reference. I do understand you don't want old stock s--t sitting on the shelves of dealers. But the main argument here is it was said / we were told this was not going to happen all the hold outs gave in and made there purchase while the entire time they were being made in the back room under the cover of darkness
To me this is a $900 mistake that I can not refund and at some point will have to update my entire system so that I can be back wards compatible with the 51t mounts.

bingo!!!!m1garand30064 wrote:That is not what we are saying. Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
Well, I'd love to hear a response from AAC, it will determine if I'll continue being an AAC customer.
I need to know if the 18T mount will continue to be supported. It was said that they will produce brakes and brakeouts for 18T cans but now that only the m4-1k is 18T I seriously doubt they will. Makes little financial sense to me, but lying to customers doesn't make sense either.
I think it was dishonest for this to happen this way.
If I wouldn't have to eat $200 I'd just sell my can today and find an alternative. But I'm still mad, maybe I'll change my mind in a few days. At the least, I Know I would not have bought this can if I would have known this.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
I am still pissed about the TiRant thing as well. I lost the $300 too. What AAC did made me very angry . I own 5 AAC suppressors, so it is not like I do not like their products. I am only 25 yrs old and will be buying new suppressor for the rest of my life. The whole ordeal left a sour taste in my mouth.
I ordered a 45 suppressor and because of the issue above it wasnt a TiRant 45. It was a Silencerco Osprey. I was planning a getting a 308 suppressor some time this year and now I hear people got screwed on the 18t ordeal when AAC specifically stated that there would not be a 51T 762SD suppressor in 2010.
AAC. Please respond to this issue. You might be losing loyal customers because of it.

Except that's exactly what Magpul did with the MVG and RVG. They flat out said that the market already had excellent options and they did not feel like they would be adding anything if they came up with their own. SHOT 2010 rolls around and guess what, they've got vertical foregrips that they said just a couple weeks prior they wouldn't be making under any circumstances.firefighter509 wrote: Magpul does not say something is not going to happen and then SURPRISES the industry with something new.
Just because it happens to be a cheap plastic part instead of a thousand dollar silencer doesn't matter. Magpul did exactly what AAC did, it's just a matter of scale. Every manufacturer in every industry does it. Try buying the best computer on the market and see if it's the best in a week and a half.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
I respectfully disagree. A cheap plastic part is very easy to recover from whereas buying a silencer as a civilian is a huge headache and hassle. If I am out $40 and can turn around tomorrow and get what I want then whatever. Am I still pissed off? Mildly. This, however, has government involvement so it is not like the situation can be corrected overnight.JohnnyC wrote:firefighter509 wrote: Just because it happens to be a cheap plastic part instead of a thousand dollar silencer doesn't matter.
Just to be clear, IMO this is a really crappy thing for any company to do. Whether it be magpul, AAC, Ford, Volvo, Sony, WHOEVER. Just because "other companies do it" is not an excuse. However, what elevates the frustration here is the wait, the hassle, and the $200 extra you have to pay in order to receive the silencer. At a minimum you are looking at spending a $1000 and you have to wait 3-4 months. I think it is not too much to ask to have access to the full product line for that year. If I bought the silencer right before SHOT and they roll something out at SHOT it would be on me. That is not the way it went down though.

Re: 51 tooth 762-SD in Production !!!!!!!!!!
AAC has already said they will not be doing "upgrades" ever since the new improved EVO-9 came out.
I agree with ATC b/c I find impossible no one knew the 51's were coming out. Of course they knew! That said I feel that AAC should have done something like this:
Hey guys, 51T's are getting made so we decided to let you know in case you are in the market for one
This saves face and allows 18T fans to go ahead without the ability to whine about it later. 51T guys could have held off or pre-ordered........Ti-45 was vaporware forever and just hitting the streets recently, so it's not unheard of for AAC to brag about an upcoming product that is not gonna dilver for a LONG time.
This is why people are upset. The 51T was simple Evolution IMHO, the same thing they did for the .223 cans.......it was inevitable.

Magpuls practices have lost me as a customer for the most part. I'm not opposed to their stuff, but between their lack of communication about new products and the ACR, I look for alternative products when I can. I vote with my wallet.JohnnyC wrote:Except that's exactly what Magpul did with the MVG and RVG.
