I dont post much here but I have been sucking up as much info as possible for a while now. Still have not purchased a supressor of my own as of yet primarily for two reasons one being my state laws and the other being the lack of a supressor that really fits my list of wants.
WA supressor bill looks like it will go through so first issue is solved. As for the second the AAC 762 SDN-6 seems to be the do all wonder can I have been wanting!
My question is I have read a few times here and there that there is a good probablility of a baffle strike whith some surplus 7.62x39 ammo due to poor manufacturing. From what I gathered its not uncommon for projectile cross sectional densities to be off enough that the projectile isnt stabilized as its leaving the barrel. Guess match grade ammo wasnt a huge concern of the comrades making the stuff but I assume it could cause sever problems inside of a can.
So what are some reasonably safe flavors of 7.62x39 ammo? Looking for specific companies or countries of origin that seem to be reasonably consistant.
BTW this will not be fired from an AK but rather an MRP set up for 7.62x39, .556 and 300blk who knows maybe even 5.7 and 5.5 too (good to have options lol)
Just waiting on Rainer Arms to get some of these bad boys in stock!

I am wondering if you fire a bunch of rounds of the ammo from your rifle unsuppressed and you get tight groupings at 100 feet.... is this enough evidence that your ammo is consistent enough to abate concerns of a strike?
Good question, I wonder what everyone thinks.

Well, there is no easy answer. if the ammo is crap, there is a danger with any can.ick wrote:I am wondering if you fire a bunch of rounds of the ammo from your rifle unsuppressed and you get tight groupings at 100 feet.... is this enough evidence that your ammo is consistent enough to abate concerns of a strike?

That said, the main reason manufacturers warn people about 762x39 is not because of the ammo, but because of the generally crappy threads on AKs. With an MRP barrel, chances are that it will be threaded square and concentric and so you should be good to go.
Like ick said, you can check for good groups and any keyholing of the rounds by just shooting unsuppressed and checking the target.
When you mount the can, pull the BCG and look through the barrel from the breach end and see if there is any side of the baffle stack that is causing a shadow or looks off center.

Thanks for the info, batch testing seems like a good idea. Sort of like bare shafting an arrow to check spine weight.

The 762-SDN-6 is rated for 308. So yes, 7.62x39mm, being less than 308 in power, is not a problem.

I just finished shooting 1000 rounds of wolf black box thru the 7.62sd no problems at all.

I was concerned about the ammo itself not so much about if the SDN-6 could handle the round. I read that the SDN-6 could handle 300wm from a 24" barrel which is one of the rifles I plan to use it on
