Subsonic .223 bad?

Post by Unobtanium »

Is this stuff a bad idea for those who don't want to bother with a .22 upper, but might want to be a little extra quiet from time to time?

You have it the other way around. A 22 upper is for those that don't want to bother with 223 Subsonic. Because the 22 is a LOT more useful.

223 subsonic will NOT cycle an AR, have very questionable accuracy, 75gr is going to need a 1:8 twist at least but more likely a 1:7 which is common with enthusiasts here but not to much with most AR buyers, and for all these "features" it's pretty expensive.

I would guess there are not a lot of repeat buyers of 223 subsonic.

I have never tested this ammo.

I guess if you test fire this ammo without a can on the rifle and it doesn't keyhole then it would be good to go in that rifle

They make a 52gr projectile. PRobably safer.

I already have a 5.56 rifle with 1/7 twist and a switchblock to shut off the gas. A .22 upper is just ammo away for me, so to speak, and it would indeed save a lot of "bother" in MY case if I wanted something very quiet.
