Sirs,
How short of a barrel I can mount on my Christmas Cheer / OG / Lunchbox special run hardware and still be able to mount my AAC Cyclone (pending)? I do not own a single AR-15 barrel to eyeball with. I believe you guys have no trouble mounting all your QD cans on your 11.5 inch barrels. I've never used a QD can, so I don't know if they require more or less exposed barrel. I am guessing that the answer is 11.5 or 12 inches. I asked this same question years ago, but my plan then was for a 762SD and the answer was 11.5 inches.
My other question is about engraving. Is there somebody that can engrave the original laser etch? I could have sworn some guys had this done. I already have the "maker" information on there, but I don't know if the "manufacturer" engraving on the grip stub is ok. I'd also like to paint the thing any color but black, which would probably mean a couple hours for a heavily-tan rattlecan job. It already hit 110 degrees this year and black stuff in this sun sucks.
Thanks.

The manufacturer marks on the pistol grip stub are fine......afterall if they weren't allowed to engrave there they wouldn't have engraved there.Twinsen wrote:Sirs,

See, I wondered if they were ok when the receiver was the entire gun because at that point it was in plain sight. I've been into NFA this long and still don't know enough to do anything. Thanks for the answer.

Where exactly on the grip stub is this engraving?
Is it covered by the grip?

Sure is, the engraving is on the stub that aligns the pistol grip.Tom12.7 wrote:Where exactly on the grip stub is this engraving?

I guess that could be good news? I was always told that it had to be visible without any disassembly? Maybe my info was wrong?

Its called "manufacturers marking variance". Gives them the ability to mark in an alternate location and an alternate means.Tom12.7 wrote:I guess that could be good news? I was always told that it had to be visible without any disassembly? Maybe my info was wrong?

Wow, well that is pretty good news then. I've been marking ARs on the bottom by the trigger. This sounds much better.

Do you have a marking variance? If you do not then you must mark it within the regs.Tom12.7 wrote:Wow, well that is pretty good news then. I've been marking ARs on the bottom by the trigger. This sounds much better.
Are you talking in the trigger well where the trigger exits the receiver?
Re: Christmas Cheer barrel length clearance question + engra
That's the area that I'm talking about. A NFA Specialist recommended that area to me years ago for a more discreet location that required no disassembly to see.
And no, I don't have a variance.

If you are talking a Form1 engraving then that is fine and doesn't require a variance, if you are talking manufacturing then you need a variance.Tom12.7 wrote:That's the area that I'm talking about. Engraving where the trigger exits the receiver on the underside is permitted.Tom12.7 wrote:Form 1
