WTK: Different variations of NT4 QD flashiders...

Post by K1196A »

I'm getting close to my NT4 Form 4 clearing and started setting up my rifles and I noticed I have two different variants of QD flash-hiders.

One has an additional recess milled in (marked), the other does not.

Both otherwise seem identical. Is there any signifigance or purpose to the change?

I want to say it is for a blank firing adapter...

Maybe...

I don't know about that. It's a very shallow recess -- I was wondering about an O-ring or something. It doesn't seem wide enough, or deep enough, for much else.

Looks like a dirt groove but you got me on this one. I will see if I can ask someone that would know or remember.

Holy crap -- I stumped the man! Yeah, if you could figure it out that would be cool.

Should this go into the thread on rare KAC parts. LOL!

I had never seen one of these, and I pride myself on knowing about bizzarre or unique KAC products.

I just asked this question to Dave Lutz, VP for Mil Ops (Lt. Col. USMC ret.)

He noted that the top with the "dirt ring" has a longer/wider area, and he has never seen that and does not beleive it to be ours.

I think that is an optical illusion on the length issue, but I can try to take some measurements later tonight to verify.

I can say with certainty that this came from an authorized KAC vendor who is active on this website and I have no reason to doubt its authenticity based on who I received it from and from the quality of the part.

If those of you at KAC would like to see it, or whatever, I'd be happy to send it your way to inspect. Only condition is that if it is some uber rare item that it comes back to me (or is exchanged for an SR15E3)! LOL!

Kevin -- are there any KAC markings, etc I should look for to try to verify mfg.?

Hmmm - looks like your is in a different spot (further back). Weird.

I wonder what the KAC guys are figuring out.

Ok, just cut one out of the packet and it is dimensionally identical to the one with the "dirt ring," except for the obvious lack of the dirt ring in question on the comparison FH.

In light of an additional version showing up, and still in KAC bag, are we still thinking mine is not authentic? Like I said, they are otherwise identical and it IS available for KAC inspection. If somebody is passing off very high quality fakes I would think you guys would want to confirm it.

Actually it is legit

Those are two current versions.

I had never seen that cut, but I just went and checked them out.

Did you establish the reason for the change?

It's interesting to me that products like this and the SR15 E3's seem to be in an almost constant state of evolution with small design tweaks all along the way. KAC designers & engineers must not get much sleep!
