URX III availability?

Post by post tensioned »

Since I saw the pics of the 16" 300 BLK uppers from AAC using the new URX III, does this mean they will be commercially available soon?

NO, they are different. The URX on the Magpul Dynamics edition is the same as the special run LW URX.

Sorry if this is a crappy first post, I've read some of the threads here and just decided to register.
I called KAC today about the new URX III with the part number shown above, and was told that it's not in production? I thought it was available? I really would like to replace my mid length SR15 IWS URX with the newer rifle length URX III.
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, you're going to have a hard time putting a rifle length urx on the SR15 E3 due to the location of the gas block.

We were actually eye-balling one that Trey brought down on a SR15 e3 rifle and it looks like the only modification that would be required to anything is the bottom two corners of the gas block may need to be shaved down a little bit just to clear the lower half of the rail. But we won't know for sure till we get it on. I will post pics if I get a chance.

if the internal dimensions are the same as the rifle length URX II, which i imagine they are, yes, all you need to do is shave the bottom corners of the gas block for the bottom rail to fit. i did it with my sr-15 e3.

you can see the gas block under the first set of holes in this pic:

The P/N 20547-3 URXII Rifle Length rail does not have a relief cut for the midlength gas block.

The URXIII Rifle Length (P/N 30005-3) rail does have a cut for the midlength gas block.

What will happen is the URXII rail appears to fit but the gas block will rub (unless the top of the block is taken down a bit)

Can rail sections be added to this one? Not that it's really necessary, I'm just curious as it looks like the added sections would be much thinner than the LW URX II using MOE sections.

I'd really like to be able to add a very tin section of rail to the right side for my gear sector scout mount and possibly a very thin section on the bottom for an AFG. The MOE sections work obviously, but make it quite thick since the MOE sections were intended to be used on a flatter surface.

I'm looking at getting a mount fit to the slick rail itself so there's no need to add a section there, just not sure how it'll work out yet.
