What is the quietest suppressed firearm?
Just curious what it THE quietest suppressed firearm available from anybody? My WAG ( wild assed guess ) would be an integral 77/22 bolt gun firing a subsonic. I'd be looking for a practical round, so the colibri is out. One suitable for small game would be preferable. Is a .22 the way to go or are there any pistol or rifle calibers that can be as quiet?

I found this page and it didn't say anything about suppressors. I'm in GA and work for Game and Fish and we have a law against hunting with suppressors. I think it is intended to make it harder for folks to poach without detection, but I would be all for repealing this law is they asked me. I don't suppose that is likely, though.

The quietest firearms are captive piston ammo arms from russia. The next one are Kitzmann-silenced 22s. Then there is a big gap, and afterwards comes the rest of silenced weaponry.mr45auto wrote:Just curious what it THE quietest suppressed firearm available from anybody? firearm silencers are a contribute to environmental protection
Re: What is the quietest suppressed firearm?
Can you elaborate on the Kitzmann suppressed 22s. I did a brief Goggle search and did not find anything usefull.

Sorry to hijack, BUT I am from GA also and there are several guys from SnipersHide and AR15.com that are gonna TRY to see what we can do. From my understnding the next DNR meeting will not be untill 2007! What part of the state are you from? I know several DNR guys. I am in the NW corner.pokey wrote:http://www.dfw.state.or.us/ODFWhtml/Inf ... irearm.pdf

More info on the Kitzmann please.
Well seeing as poaching is NOT hunting, that is a pretty stupid reason for such a law. Basically that is a law against breaking another law.I'm in GA and work for Game and Fish and we have a law against hunting with suppressors. Well, it doesn't make much sense. I don't know what if anything precipitated this law, but I might have to do some research. I do know that it is extremely rare that it is charged.Well seeing as poaching is NOT hunting, that is a pretty stupid reason for such a law. Basically that is a law against breaking another law.

Kitzman was a German Gunsmith that experimented a lot with Silencers.

He made several super slim silencers that where almost non visible as the where fitted inside the original barrels.

I'm in Oregon, too. There's nothing on the books prohibiting hunting with suppressors. You could ask a State Trooper or Game Warden, but most of them seem to be ignorant of relevant laws; they have legal counsel within their respective departments to answer the hard questions.mr45auto wrote:I'm in Oregon, I havent found anything about it in the regs. Next time I run into a trooper when I'm up shooting I'll ask them about it since they enforce game laws.
As for quiet combinations...
I don't know if anyone still makes a replica or similar, but the DeLisle Carbine was one of the best. 303 British Enfield converted to 45ACP, 7" barrel and integral suppressor, and a mag block to use 1911 magazine.

Re: What is the quietest suppressed firearm?
Thankfully the law against hunting with silencers has been changed in GA, prior to that the way the regulations read you could hunt with a belt fed machine gun but not a single shot with a silencer. There is still no capacity limit for deer and now you can use the can.
When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns
Re: What is the quietest suppressed firearm?
You are correct that a integrally suppressed bolt .22 rimfire LR is by far the quietest of configurations. Of course it doesn't have to be brand specific. I had a Sears Roebuck single action rifle that imo, exceeded hollywood quiet.

Airguns hover around the 95-100 dB rangeTodd Is wrote:... imo, exceeded hollywood quiet.

153-190 -- if I were you I'd sell that KelTec RFB
147-152 -- unless that's a 50BMG you got ripped off
141-146 -- are you sure those rounds are subsonic?
135-140 -- you didn't spend enough
129-134 -- loud
123-128 -- quiet
117-122 -- stupid quiet
111-116 -- giggly quiet
105-110 -- mouse fart quiet
100-104 -- is that an air gun or did you forget to load it?

Airguns was where I got my start in my early teens, I spent many a covert operations knocking off starlings in n around barn lots Yea...a suppressed air rifle is uber quiet.
Re: What is the quietest suppressed firearm?
Some of the smaller .177s can dip down into the lower 90s (barely into the upper 80s), unsuppressed PCPs are loud as f*k.Todd Is wrote:Airguns was where I got my start in my early teens, I spent many a covert operations knocking off starlings in n around barn lots Yea...a suppressed air rifle is uber quiet.
I have a .177 Marauder that I thought was broken the first time I fired it, never heard anything but the hammer.
The lowest number I've seen released by a reputable manufacturer for a firearm is 109dB for a 22 suppressor. Jesse James claimed to be in the 70s but he's just full of sh*t.
