Subsonic 45-70 from 10mm rated 45 pistol can

Yes, it can be legal to make a silencer. For everything Form-1, from silencer designs that are easily made, to filing forms with the BATF, to 3D modeling. Remember, you must have an approved BATF Form-1 to make a silencer. All NFA laws apply.

Subsonic 45-70 from 10mm rated 45 pistol can

Post by ARC_RAY »

There is a similar thread to this but it is coming up on 15 years since the last post so I thought I would start a new one.

According to online formulas, 45-70 410 grain @ 1000fps from a 16-inch barrel would be roughly equal to 45 acp 410 grain @ ~ 750fps out of a 5-inch barrel as far as chamber pressure. That is they are about 23000 psi, and 10mm max pressure is 37500 psi so my thought is that it should be fine on a suppressor rated for 10mm but then again I could be overlooking some critical factors that bear discussion. Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

45 acp 410 grain @ ~ 750fps out of a 5-inch barrel. That will put some swing in your dingaling.

There are powder burn differences between rifle vs pistol power and you will have to deal with a higher volume powder in the short .45 acp suppressor plus possible threading issues, but it might work well.
The only reason after 243 years the government now wants to disarm you is they intend to do something you would shoot them for!

Yeah it might not work the best, but what do you think as far as damaging the suppressor. Do you think that higher volume of powder could cause some premature wear or damage? Being full auto rated my thought is no, but I really don't know myself.

I'm just guessing but I think the barrel length rating is more of a pressure thing vs temperature for full auto.

I would run them in QL/GRT and see what the pressure at the muzzle is. I think you are probably right, it would stand up to the pressure fine, but the can would likely not have the volume to suppress a 45-70 very well.

410 grain 45...is that actually a thing?
