9mm can on...

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

9mm can on...

Post by Jug »

A 357 rifle? Would a a 9mm can like the evolution 9 work on 357 mag. rifle(with the rifle adapter of course) or is the additional pressure of the 357 a little to much for 9mm cans? By the way this is a very nice site. Glad I found it. :)

Yes, it will work. If you want you can replace the spring in the recoil booster with a fixed spacer.

9mm is .355 inch, isn’t .357 .357 inches?

Is this too small to make a difference? I always thought a TC Encore in .38 spl with a 9mm suppressor would be pretty slick.

So are you saying that the projectiles are the same diameter? If so why is there no loading data for 9mm projectiles into the .38spl or .357mag cartridges? I know the difference between .355 and .357 is very small buy no suppressor manufacturer will ok it for sure so I’m still a little apprehensive.

9mm is .354
.357 is .357
This difference is only .003 of an inch which is enough to affect the ride down rifling in a barrel when using 9mm in a .38 or .357. The other way around is a little big for chambering. A 9mm can on a .38 will work but on a .357 I wonder about the volume of gas. Both the 9mm and the .357 run at about the same SAMMI max pressure. True enough this is only conjecture, I've never done either.

What rifle would you use? A Thompson Contender in 357?

According toSpeer's Website, 9mm is .355 inches in diameter and .357mag is .357 inches in diameter.

357SIG is .355 inches also, so I assume a 9mm can would work for .357SIG??

We have suppressed Thompson Contenders, Marlin lever actions, and an IMI Timberwolf in .38/.357. I am really fond of the Timberwolf rifles, but the Marlin is the easiest to thread. .38spl. rifles work pretty well with a 9mm muzzle can.
