408 cheytac can- (updated with range report) 4/10/09
Got my approval recently and finally got to turn some metal today. Instead of starting off making a wussy 22 can I decided to make something that if I screw up would kill me and all of those around me. (just kidding) I got my paper work for a 50 can as well so I thought I would build the 408 can first and this would help me finalize my 50 can as well. This is my first day of work on this and I won't be able to do any more for another week or so- so I will post pictures as I go. The can is 12 inches long 2 inches in Dia and 316 stainless. I just started the end caps. ( the end caps are not complete they have some detail work to finish on it)

I was at the Shot Show and overheard the Chey-Tac salesman asked if it was their rifle that set the sniper record for that 2430 meter shot in Afganistan. He confirmed it was CheyTac (it was a McMillan Tac-50) and then went on to say that was no big deal as they also do cranium vault shots over a mile.

Not shocking to hear.rsilvers wrote:I was at the Shot Show and overheard the Chey-Tac salesman asked if it was their rifle that set the sniper record for that 2430 meter shot in Afganistan. Anyway you look at it.....that's one hell of a rifle.
I have noticed that most sales people at Shot are product inflating whores.
It seriously makes me wonder if some in the industry hire sales personnel from marketing firms?

Is it just me or is there a flare at the end of the barrel in the second to last pic?
Also is that a bultin collar on the barrel? is it there for any specific purpose? Is it to allow for an over the barrel / OPS type suppressor. Though it would probably make the remainder of the barrel flutes pretty cruddy.
Nice pics, can't wait to invest in my own 408, wife says we need to work on the house first.
