Hmmm those are interesting, but the nice thing about the Boga Grips is that once you clip the fish on the lips it locks in place and will not come undone. Just clip it and grab the handle. It seems like the fish could come off, but it won't. I've seen guides pick up Tarpon with Boga's before.
The first two links look like simple pliers in which you have to keep constant pressure on them. The third link looks like it functions similarly to the Boga. Pretty good reviews on it and very cheap. Might be worth a try if you don't mind it not having a built in scale.

I looked it up. Native to where I am, and considered invasive to other areas because they were introduced by accident and eat the eggs of gamefish.
"An excellent panfish highly regarded as a food fish in the Eastern United States, it is not often exploited as a game fish and generally is regarded as undesirable, especially when over-population in fresh waters causes the species to become stunted."

The lake I fish at in town stocks the lake with rainbows. That's way bigger than any rainbow I've ever seen pulled out of the lakes around here. It also has catfish, bass, and bluegill in the lake. Catching bluegill with a fly is very funpdemos wrote:Yeah if it's not a salmon or steelhead I'm pretty much lost for what they are. But I do have some pretty nice rainbows in my pond, everybody thinks I feed them to much, that is besides me I think there just fine.

Get a 50 hp engine cover. Or change your hp decals.rsilvers wrote:That is awesome. We have one 220 acre lake which is stocked with salmon and trout. It is very close to me and in fact I grew up 1/6 mile from it and yet only fished it maybe twice. I should start now, but they only allow engines up to 50 HP and mine is a 60.

Maybe just get a kicker motor and use it, you will need one for trolling anyway. To bad you are so far away, I have a brand new 9.9 Johnson that I have never used I might sell. Sounds like you might have a pretty nice place to fish, I would go for it.rsilvers wrote:That is awesome. We have one 220 acre lake which is stocked with salmon and trout. The cool thing about that trout is I released it unharmed (yeah it's alive in that picture) and it's even bigger now. But he has a few freinds in the pond that are just as big if not bigger. And these fish are smarter then people give them credit for, so catching the big ones isn't easy.paco ramirez wrote:pdemos wrote:Yeah if it's not a salmon or steelhead I'm pretty much lost for what they are. A california sea lion that I would guess weighed about 500 lbs that chomped a barracuda that I hooked. I watched it jump like a marlin and the cut the line before it completely spooled me.
And thise are some weird lookin perch, never seen those before. Looks kinda like a large mouth/white bass hybrid--crazy.
Oh ya and the OG Bogas are worth the money, I gave one to my uncle years ago and love using it to pick up largemouths full of treble hooks.
