What to consider before purchase ???

General silencer discussion. If you want to talk about a specific silenced rifle or pistol, it is best to do that in the rifle or pistol section for that brand.

All NFA laws apply.

What to consider before purchase ???

Post by DarryH »

I have been considering purchasing a suppressor within the next year.
I know my state allows ownership.
I know threads have to be matched with the barrels.
I don't know a lot more.

I'd like on for my .223 AR15, and probably one for a 22 rimfire rifle and pistol,
and maybe one for a Golck 17 in 9mm.
Now I will only be able to buy one at first, so the AR15 wins first pick.
I will NOT be firing full auto.

What do I need to look for in a suppressor??

Thanks
Good Shootin!!

Well, sound level, quality, mounting systems. Or you can just take a recommendation.

If you want a compact one that you will screw on and leave on, then perhaps an AAC Ranger or SWR Wolverine. If you want a quieter one that is good for general purpose use with a good quick mount, then get an M4-2000. If you don't know what you want and just want to be happy, then get an M4-2000 for the 5.56mm, an Evo-9 for the Glock 17, and for the .22 pistol get either an AAC Pilot, AAC Scarab, Gemtech OutbackII, or SWR Warlock.

You have to determine what is important to you, here are some things to consider:

Price
Warranty
Change in POI
Accuracy
Size
Weight
Sound Reduction
Ease of Maintenance
Quality
Aesthetics
MFG Reputation
Wet vs. Dry
Ability to change to other thread sizes
