Minimum barrel diameter for 5/8-24 TITAN

Post by dustingaunder »

I'm thinking about getting a .30-06 hunting gun threaded to use with my Titan, I want a lighter profile than a long range or barking gun. I'm looking at a tikka t3 and thinking about having it cut down to 20". Thanks guys, I can't wait to get my paperwork back.

How big is the Tikka? I would think we would like to see a barrel profile that is .750" at a shoulder.

I'm waiting on the measurement but if you guys want .750 it probably isn't gonna happen. I'll find out for sure though. Thanks.

I'm going to go look at it and measure tomorrow.

Oh, I called today and I got approved last Friday!!!!

Of course you know I'm stoked now. :) We'll see how tax time and bonuses go and I may be calling Surgeon about building my Remedy instead of this -06.

Are we talking about the required shoulder diameter for indexing or is there another reason for needing a specific barrel profile?

Got it.

If the diameter on the barrel isn't large enough couldn't you use an adapter the indexed off a correct shoulder?

At 16" the barrel is 0.677" and tapers to 0.630" at the muzzle (22.5").

No go... there is just not enough shoulder... What is it at 20"?

Didn't measure, it is a straight taper so I figured one could calculate it. ;)
I calculated about 0.648" or so, and the factory barrel length is 22.4375" at .630 at the muzzle.

Hey Mike, I found an Encore rifle in .308 that is threaded 5/8-24 already. It is .730 at the shoulder. Is that acceptable? If I pick it up, I'll be getting a heavy barrel in 30-06 and selling the standard .308 barrel, but would probably shoot it a few times if is acceptable diameter.

Sure, that will work just fine... Enjoy!
