Customers .45 Silent Carbine, used to hunt!

Customers .45 Silent Carbine, used to hunt!

.45 is plenty for deer, several customers use them back east.

I just got this in an unsolicited e-mail from Texas.
From the owner of one of the quad-rail equipped .45 Silent Carbine's I built.

".......this gun is by far my favorite and I have more than a few firearms.
I have already killed 2 deer and a hog with it this year and was amazed at how hard it hit them.
All where shot at about 30-40 yards and it just flattened them.
I shot them with a .45+P 230 grain hollow point flying at 930 fps.

The hog was shot from the front with the same round, and weighed in at 210 pounds.
I shot it at night with my Universal Night Sight (UNS) that I normally use on my work sniper rifle, it was mounted in front of my Night Force scope.
I mounted an ATPIAL infared laser on the rail system as well to provide some illumination and it was awesome.
Thanks so much for everything you have done".

I am happy that he is happy! 8)
+P probably adds to the report, but apparently not enough to be a problem.
At these prices I want my gas 100 octane, leaded, and my windshield washed!

I hope he is not shooting white tails. The use of a suppressor for game animals in Texas is not legal. (unless the laws changed, which I'm not aware of) A suppressor is only legal for non-game animals and a valid license is required. You may want to have your customer check the current Texas Hunting booklet that is free anywhere hunting/fishing licesnes are sold.

He may be hunting in other states as well.

I would have to verify he is doing all his hunting in TX, I assumed he was.
He may be hunting in other states as well.

His e-mail does not actually say where he got all his game.
I've built a couple of the quad-rail guns.
Currently working on a third.
I know one went to TX, I would have to check my book for the other.

Not sure what sort of deer he is shooting, I just copied and pasted the pertinent portion of his e-mail to me.

I knew +P .45 kills deer, I'm more impressed with the hog.

Yep, that sure is impressive. I know several people that hunt hogs with suppressed rifles but using the .45 is really cool. I'm wanting to build a 300 whisper AR this year and build an intergrall suppressor around it.

Your customer could also have been shooting some sort of Non-game deer such as Axis.

It fascinates me that some people believe that the proper 230 grain bullet at over 900fps would have a problem killing a deer. Similar projectiles were used throughout American history to do just that.

I would at least use XTP's, but I would prefer the bonded PDX1.

I have handloaded heavier than 230gr hardcast bullets in 45 Super brass for use in a single shot TC. It really thumps anything it hits.

Maybe he was doing warden-sanctioned culling, or maybe he just doesn't care.

Knowing his job description, I'm sure he is legal.

I am sure he would not risk his career just for deer!

Maybe he's LEO of some kind. He said the night vision was on his WORK sniper rifle. Anyway sounds cool to me. I hunt in MS and have taken four deer with a suppressor this season.

So I take it that it's legal to use a suppressor to hunt in Mississippi? I haven't checked the law yet but was curious.

Yes. It is legal to hunt with suppressors in MS. I verified this with the enforcement division at Jackson, MS. I was told any caliber any game.
