.50 BMG Subsonic bolt guns?

Be careful -- low-volume ratio loads can detonate. Mangement not responsible for load data. Use at your own risk.

Who has messed with sub sonic BMG loads and what were the results?

I have a bolt action .50 BMG so cycling is not a issue.

Subsonic .50 BMG

Post by GHIVELY50BMG20MM »

Hi everyone,my first post!!!

33.5grn of Red Dot, M-2 690grn horse pill at 952fps
Mcmillan Tac-50 29" pipe, 1-15 twist
Bullet Stability Calculation, 1.98 Bullet is maximally Stabilized.
I get 46fps of boost from AAC-CYCLOPS Total Velocity 998fps

Velocity x Velocity x Bullet Weight in Grains / 450240 = 1526ftlbs energy.

see video on YouTube "AAC 50"

Thanks for bringing that to my attention, the video is incorrect about the charge weight. "Pharmuse" didn't correct my mistake, I told him I couldn't remember the exact load, after checking my notes I brought this to his attention.

Thanks again for keeping me on target.

I have a McMillan 50 and just picked up a .50 reloading setup. Few newbie questions:
1)Did you crimp case after seating bullet?
2)What was the case powder volume with that load(33.5gr)(ie. 30% or more etc.)?
3)Any flash hole modifications(over sizing)?
4)Powder selection reason? Tried any other powders with any success?
5)Bullet selection reason(Tried any others)?

THX!

Great video!!!

22 inch barrel, bolt, 1- 15 twist, CCI-35 primers
647 gr Barnes TAC-X, #30695. OAL - 5.205.

Trail Boss 44 Grains, 22 round sample
V average 1024
V max 1045
V min 1005

Red Dot 38 Grains, 10 round sample
V average 1030
V max 1055
V min 1015

At 100 yards I am getting key holes, but JBM stability indicates greater than 2 for stability.
Does the JBM number indicate more stable the higher the number or is around 2 - 3 optimal?

Definite key holes with both of the above loads with Trail Boss at 45 gr and Red Dot at 39 gr.
