Everything I hear says yes, but unless you a HSLD probably doesn't make a difference. I have heard they addressed some of the issues including battery terminal wear, battery life, and general durability.

I have an XPS and have been running it for about 2 months and it is flawless. I will never buy any other Eotech besides the XPS unless they come out with another one better.
So others may live...

The XPS is the only one I'd be willing to try. It's the only one that seems to address the problems that are inherent to the EoTech design.

Battery inline with recoil allowing terminals to compress. Better electronics for longer life.
Going a little more discrete here due to some of my opinions...

So what compares to the 553? The EXPS?

And how often does this become a issue? I have one that I had in the sand box maybe 6-7000 rounds no issue, have to change battery once in two years. I have seen this issue on the web but never have talked to anyone who had it happen.
