Form 1 - returned / not approved questions

Post by BriggsRi »

I made a bone head omission on my Form 1, I neglected to fill out the " why you intend to make firearm"

No big deal, I'll just put in there gun collector, but...

After I return my completed Form 1, how long should I expect for approval / turn around time? I'm hoping that this will not be out for an additional 8+ weeks.

Any one else have to return a Form 1 and what was your turn around time?

Thanks, Man am I a Bone Head

I had an issue with my first form 1. Under NC law, I was required to mention the specific statute that allows SBR's. I filled in "for legal purposes only" and had it returned to me. I spoke with my examiner, Nicole Dudash, and ended up adding "for research and development" and immediately sent it back addressed specifically to her the following day. The turn around time back to me with the stamp and signatures was less than 4 weeks. Right around 20-21 days. I hope that helps.

Yeah, it sucks waiting that long only to have to wait even longer.

Most excellent. That is one hell of a turn around. Mind if I ask when you sent it in, and when they cashed your check?

No worries. I sent another form 1 in mid january and wanted to see how long of a wait I was still in for. Thanks for getting back to the thread.

On a Form 1 for SBR, is "collection" a qualified reason, as it is on a Form 4 for a silencer?

i didn't include a two sided copy of my signed f4 and called and spoke with my examiner. he said it's in his stack somewhere and when he gets to it he will contact me then and not to send in the f4 copy yet as he'll just lose it. turns out he never contaced me but my dealer got the stamped approved f4 no worries and no delays.

My understanding is that the "why" block can be filled with any legal reason, unless your state dictates otherwise. Hence some ballsy examples Ive seen on here like,"Zombies" or "Chicks Dig SBR's". I see no reason why "collecting" wouldn't work, but the most popular I've seen in my short travels has been "for legal purposes only". I guess you'd have to check to see if your state legal verbage requiring something specific.

I've seen the "zombies" form on the net before as well. I've always said "collecting". I've never had any problems.
May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.

ATF is cracking down on this. At a minimum you will be delayed while legal looks it over. Returns are on the rise for non-standard reasons.

Do it if you want, but it's not like it used to be.
